Why not get a serpa for a g17. Same holster but a bit longer if the barrel sticking out bothers you. Maybe a 17L? Why not mod current one with kydex?

I love serpa holsters. When needing a bit more concealment or comfort in a vehicle or working around a Sticky holster can't be beat.
It's the retention issues with the Serpa. I'm planning on taking some training and most training "camps" don't allow them anymore.

I've been allowed to tape the button down and run the serpa. Tried a Bladetech without retention and it was junk. Actually fell off my belt while in a store. Pitched it.

I'm using a Serpa currently. Only retention holster made for a SP-01. My main complaint was with the belt attachment. SUPER flimsy. Bought a Safariland belt loop and bolted it to the Serpa.....SUCCESS! Highly recommended.

Have been and continue to run the Serpa for nearly all my pistols, including my 1911. I know the gun snobs wanna dump on the Serpa, but honestly they're bashing the wrong holster. Blackhawk's T-series is the one to avoid. In all pistols with manual safeties (like the 1911), the T-series causes the safety to flick off while it's in the holster. I'll stick with my Serpa till a truly excellent Level 2 or 3 holster comes out with good selection (i.e., models other than just Glock).
