Does anyone know of an Indy-area shop that may do custom stock work?

I've carved a walnut 10/22 thumbhole stock, and did pretty well, but ended up with a slightly larger opening in the receiver area than desired.

(realizing this isn't necessarily "gunsmithing", but seemed to be the most appropriate landing place)

    Thanks
    Dan

I'm no expert, but that sounds like the perfect opportunity for some glass-bedding. 10/22 is a simple set up, depending on the area of gap.. open others up, bed it, sand it, seal it and enjoy a more accurate stock than original would have been.

pics would help all of us come to a better solution; rather than our imagination.

Ah, excellent idea, I’ll do that. Of course, that one’s at the back of the safe!

Well, it didn't help that the site doesn't seem to allow photo uploads from a phone (an Android at least), but here are the pics.

I still have some final machining remaining, but if I've boogered up the action space too much, then there's not much point in that.

It's a pretty piece of walnut.

Yep, there was plenty of wood file time, but walnut's not knife-friendly, this piece is almost petrified.
The dremeling is done and done, but the barrel "channel" was with a router, that came out well.

For a first attempt at making your own stock I think you did well. Some will give you ideas to clean it up, just keep at it and refine your work.

Thanks! Its the gaps in those few parts around the receiver I'm stuck on. I'm sure they'll stick out like a sore thumb if I use a filler and re-shape it, but also thought about squaring off those spots so any filler at least looks intentional.

I use Brownells Acuraglass bedding kit. I prefer the gel kit. It comes with dye too so you can add some dye to tint it so it’s not so noticeable. It will fill the gaps and make your build that much more accurate.

just make sure to follow the instructions and lots of release agent. I do multiple coats of it and have never had a problem.
