Kicking around the idea of a Glock (my first) as a occasional secondary carry weapon. The Glock19 Gen 5 seems like a solid choice, but might want something besides another 9mm. Looking for thoughts on the various Glock .45 models. Full size, compact, single stack, double stack, 30,36,21,41,etc.

I've had the gen 3 21 and didn't love it. It works and it shoots straight and that's what I can say for it. All that said I have a gen 3 20 in 10mm and love it. You tell me how that makes sense. Also have the 40 and had a 29. I like everything 10mm and if you're capable of handing a little higher recoil it's a fantastic caliber when it's loaded correctly and a soft and pleasant experience like .40 in an all steel gun when it's not. The large frame Glocks fit your hand like a 2x4 in the gen 3, but that's basically perfect for my paws. I haven't found a gen5 20 yet, but I'm sure I'll like it when I do since I also have a g45(9mm) and I like they took away the finger grooves.
My advice basically boils down to handle the large frame and if it fits your hands get one. Recoil averse, 45 otherwise 10mm for maximum cool guy status.

I owned a g21 gen 2, which is double stacked and has a big grip. Then got a g21 gen4, which is also double stacked and has a big grip. Then got the g30, which again is double stacked so big grip.

I’d like to give the g36 a try. Single stacked so might be fun.

I carry a G38 and have old Florida HP G37.
With about 4000 rounds it can do anything a .45 ACP can only shorter.

I have a 36 and a 30, the 36 feels better in hand and conceals much better.
Neither one is huge but the single stack makes a difference.

Double stack 45 feels a lot larger in the hands than a 1911 or even double stack 9mm.

I was hoping they’d make a gen4 of the 36, since I’m always worried about slide bite.

I had a 41 MOS for a short time. The frequent failure to feed across several defensive rounds kinda turned me off.
Soft shooter though. It was one of my favorites when it ran. Sample one of one.

    I just might get another.

I don't know how I missed this thread. I bought a G21g4 immediately after renting one at the local range. I love it. After a few boxes of 230gr FMJ through my G21, I sold my last 1911. The G21 is a dream to shoot, and 13+1 rounds of HST in the nightstand is quite reassuring. Never touched a 30 or 36. Never liked Commander or Officer size 1911s, either.

I have had several Glock 21's, 30's and 41's over the years and can whole heartedly recommend them. The only .45 ACP Glocks I have not had, but I do want is the 30S and the single stack 36. The Glock .45 ACP pistols are chunky and do not fit a lot of people's hands. The standard Gen 3's are very chunky, the SF models helped that a lot and were incorporated into the Gen 4 models. The Gen 5's kept the Gen 4 dimensions and ditched the finger grooves.
As @Squid556 said, AIM Surplus has LEO trade in G21's and 30's, but by the time you add shipping, tax & FFL fees, they become less of a deal. But, if you can't find one local, then at least there are some here.

I really like the 30S; it's a great shooter. It's a nice compliment if you've got both a 21 and a 19. It can take the 21 mags and it will fit very well into any 19 holster.

I have a 21 Gen 3 that I bring out when my son wants to shoot his .45 Kimber 1911. The Glock is big and feels big in the hands, but I can still shoot it as good as his Kimber. It’s stupid and I shouldn’t be able to, but it just works. It surprises me every time.

My nightstand gun is a 21 and has been for years. Like all glocks I’ve owned (and most people would agree) 100% reliable with any and all ammunition.

I have a 36. Too big for me to carry IWB personally.

I bought a 29 (10mm) for woods and I have placed the 36 slide and barrel on it and carried the home made 30S a few times. But if the 36 is too big, you know a 30S is too big for my personal IWB preferences. Still cool and it was also 100% reliable.

Love that round and platform. I just need something more compact for my daily CCW.
