I am just now getting into rifles and while I know the sorts of bullets found in pistols (fmj, jhp, soft-point), I am unfamiliar with some of these other designations like TSX, ELD-X, and Boat-Tail rounds. What do these mean? They all look basically similar to each other to me.

Oh, man. This could get involved. I'll start.
A lot of the same descriptions for pistol bullets still applies to rifles.
TSX and ELD-X are manufacturer names for their particular bullet. Look them up individually for full descriptions of what they are and the role they fill.
Boat tail simply describes the angled end of a bullet. It serves two purposes: More aerodynamic in flight and easier to reload into a case. Only needed for very long ranges to see an improvement inflight.

    TSX - Triple Shock X
ELD-X - Extreme Long Distance Expanding
Boat Tail - Tapered rear end for reducing drag

Rifle bullets will have either a flat base or tapered (boat tail) base.

Berger has written up pretty good descriptions of their various bullet designs which you may find helpful.
