A British couple described yesterday how their holiday in America turned into a nightmare when they were detained as 'illegal aliens'.

Barbara Dixon and her husband, Richard Cross, had spent three months visiting family and driving around the U.S. before travelling to Canada for a few days.

When they returned to America they thought their visa waiver - which had allowed them to stay in the country for 90 days - would be renewed automatically.

Of course we have a get tough attitude with illegals who are actually bringing money into the country, instead of demanding welfare and health services!

Where is the anger and righteous indignation from Obama and his gang? They would have been suing whoever locked these poor immigrants up, if the facts had been slightly different.

If they were poor immigrants, I suspect this OP would be a little different. An illegal is an illegal; send them home because they don't belong here.

I'm sure that if they started protesting in Spanish, they'd be released quickly...

A shame that their holiday was ruined with this little snafu, but the fault is their's.

Illegal is illegal. Still, we should show SOME courtesy to citizens of a nation we're not being invaded by. Time to start rounding up illegals and sending them back to wherever they came from.

Indeed. Their fault, but was it really necessary to dump them in a detention camp rather than simply escorting them to the airport and giving them a minor fine for inconveniencing the border patrol?

How realistic is rounding up illegal immigrants though? And how do you do it without violating the rights of legal immigrants and law abiding (though socialist they may be) citizens? How do you tell the difference between the three categories?

A poor immigrant sucking our government's teet and wasting tax payer's dollars? Yes, I'm sure it(the OP) would be different.

These people were here on vacation, spending THEIR money in our country and got a harsher punishment than most illegals that come here to exploit our system.

Exactly...Or go ahead and extend their visa while they are hear spending THEIR money in OUR country.

look up past operations through U.S. history. its been done before very successfully. the only problem and reason for not doing it today is ...... BOTH political parties want them here and could give a **** less what WE want

No Que, not really. My objection is that they were unnecessarily detained for 5 weeks when they already had tickets back to England. It shouldn't have taken more than 5 days to get them out.

What do you mean by "poor immigrants" - does that mean here illegally to suck off the the government tit?

My point isn't that it couldn't be done, it's that it can't be done without violating the fourth amendment. How do you know if someone is illegal?
