You have me drooling and my pocket book already empty! NICE!

Thank you! I am patiently waiting for the Marlin Guide Gun to come in. That will give me a 4th 45-70 gun.

    1. Original 1873 Springfield trapdoor carbine made in 1880

    2. Chiappa Sharps Calvary carbine

    3. The Marlin trapper

    4. Waiting on the Guide Gun

I also make my own bullets. I cast my own 405 grain lead flat point bullets... in fact I just got done tonight making a box of hurt...

Nice! I also live in Clark County and prefer to load my own. I haven't cast any lead projectiles yet but that is next on my bucket list.

Well if you ever get around to it and if you want any advice hit me up. I have pretty much learned what works and what doesn't. It doesn't have to be fancy you just have to have some patience and enough of the right equipment. The biggest one that I will tell you is if you use a lead pot like the Lee 20 lb pot get a PID controller. There is a member on the Forum cast bullets called Hatch and he makes and sells those.

Essentially it uses a temperature probe to control the temperature of the pot. So you plug the pot into the PID and the PID uses the temperature probe to maintain a constant temperature. In this picture you will see the little black box with the can of mold release sitting on top of it up on the shelf. That controls the temperature.?

A PID is essential to maintaining a constant temperature. The thermostat on the Lee pot is very crude and not accurate. It fluctuates wildly and the PID controls that and maintains a constant temperature within a few degrees of the temperature that you set it at

I am a fan of the 444 BUT if you don't have a favorite already I'd lean towards 357 or 44. LOTS of flexibility. 45LC would be another good one.

I personally believe that lever guns work best in a handgun caliber. That being said .44 magnum is my favorite.

44 mag has been my favorite so far. I've shot a .357 as well and it's just as cool and would be a shared caliber for you. I must admit I find myself wanting a 45-70 recently just for nostalgia and fun

357 magnum , you can find ammo on the shelves (I have not seen 44 mag in a while in my AO) and with 38 special loads you can make it subsonic for suppressor use something a lever gun excells at IMHO. Plus if you want to punch it up just load it with hot 357 magnum to be able to take down most North American game animals.

I have an older 1895 Marlin in 44 mag. Nice since I have a 8" Anaconda also a 44 mag.

With that being said I would rather have a 45-70, but thats ok.

I gave up sex for a Marlin .45-70. For a lonnng time. Was apparently not an approved purchase. Worth every damn day of exile.

Browning 1885 High Wall .38-55 best over all round, good for anything under 500 yards IMO.

They all work with full cases of black powder.

That 50-110 winchester online sure does scratch a lot of itches. I personally have a thing for 444 Marlin. But if I had no bias, I'd lead towards 44mag/357mag just for convenience. Plus the option of running 44 or 38 special.
I think the history of a lot of the old rounds is cool too. 45-70 not the least of which. Part of me wants a 45lc lever, but I still want another 444. :D

Went with 357 cause of multiple other 357 firearms I own. So commonality of ammos I suppose.

You can take deer with it and its fun to plink with 38.
that's what I did when searching for lever gun. I had 44mag revolver and decided to get matching lever gun.

only makes sense to get matching set!
