The Feds are getting a little inquisitive in Alaska.

Rep. Don Young meets with ATF about agents asking for gun shop books in Alaska | Alaska Dispatch

According to a press release from Alaska Rep. Don Young’s office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) met with Young over concerns that Young had raised about reports that ATF agents were requesting records from gun-store owners in Alaska.

While ATF agents are permitted to conduct routine, in-shop compliance inspections, federal law forbids the removal or copying of such material unless there’s an official criminal investigation. One fear is that the ATF will create some sort of list or database of gun owners, which has been illegal since 2011.

“During today’s meeting Deputy Director Brandon assured me that this is not an accepted practice at the ATF and that they are looking to remedy the situation to ensure it, or anything like it, never happens again in the future,” Young said.

Here's the boiler plate for you:
"This is not an accepted practice at the <insert name>, and we are looking to remedy the situation to ensure that it, or anything like it, never happens again in the future."

Don't forget to rubber-stamp it with the big ol' middle finger.

The one shop that went on the record, Great Northern Guns in Anchorage, said the ATF agent asked politely for the books, and when store manager Frank Caiazza refused, the agent just as politely accepted the refusal.

“I told them no. They said, ‘OK, thank you very much,’ and left.” That was in late January or early February, Caiazza said.

    Huh.

I wonder if it was actually the ATF.

ATF can't forcefully take all of your books, only what is necessary for a criminal investigation, or investigation related to the FFL's record keeping. It doesn't stop them from asking though, and you can consent.

It's like when you get pulled over and the cop asks to search your car, but asks in such a way that you think it's an order. You can lawfully refuse, but they count on most people not knowing the difference or being intimidated.

No database, illegal since 2011? That can't be possible, was Obama in the White House then?

I know you're on this mission to show Obama to be a 2A crusader, but that, along with every other pro-2A thing that's been passed into law during his tenure was thrown into a spending bill, which he wanted passed. Something that wouldn't get vetoed over the 2A provisions. He's never had a 2A bill come straight to his desk to sign or veto, so we don't know how he'd handle it.

Though we can look at his track record on decisions that WERE up to him. Banned the import of M1 Carbines (deadly assault rifles, you know), appointed Andrew Traver as head of ATF (rabid anti-2A), Fast and Furious cover-up, threatened veto of a bill if it included a cut-off of spending for Fast and Furious-type activies and the position of the Attorney General to renew the assault weapons ban.

I'm going to insert the purple over 2011. You do know that other than nfa items, a fed registry has been against the law since 1986 correct? You know part of the 1986 FOPA.

So I'll ask you straight up, do you have more 2nd Amendment freedoms under Obama than you did before he took office? Yes or no?

Your question would only be meaningful if the additional 2a rights came from Obama, or his administration. Our enhanced 2a rights come from the states, with help from the NRA, who fear Obama for good reason.

How do you think the people of Illinois/Chicago feel about there 2a rights, or complete lack thereof? Did you forget that Obama came from Chicago? Or that his former chief of staff is now Mayor of Chicago, and completely anti-2a?

What has been done in California and New England states to enhance 2a rights under Obama? Nothing. Someone's gonna have to sue each of these states to the Supreme Court to get changes, because the feds don't do crap to protect rights, despite their oaths, they only work on taking rights away (like medical Marijuana). There have been attempts to permit inter-state travel with licensed handguns, but these won't get past Obama's Senate.

It is completely safe to assume where Obama stands on 2a. He is afraid to do anything about it though at this time, but once he gets re-elected and doesn't have to ever worry about another election, watch out!
