A lot of disagreement regarding whether this is really a thing, or just the program doing what it was supposed to do. Nonetheless, it is interesting to think about how we have now reached the point that it is impossible to tell if the "person" on the other end of the internet is actually a person at all.

Kurt Godel was a German mathematician. His work at the Kiel math conference in 1922 proved that computers/machines can NEVER become sentient: they will always need an "oracle" to control them according to his paper.

Well did he predict that EVERYONE (ok 83% how-many-phones-are-in-the-world ) own a piece of glass that they carry around in their pocket that listens to them and tells them what to do? (you should buy this, this should be your friend, turn left here)
Did this mathematician dude know that never is a long time?

This isn't artifical intelligence. This is a computer carrying out its programmed functions.

    "proved" or "theorized"?

EDIT: They were theorems, which are just accepted as fact based on other known unproven facts. So in all honesty like thousands of theorems of the past it can still be disproven in time if enough things changed.

There are plenty of strong examples of AI "learning" that will continue to become more common and more comprehensive. But actual sentience is not possible currently nor in the foreseeable future. It will not become possible due to the incremental improvements that have been the norm. A wild-card quantum shift is always conceivable, but very unlikely.

Your definition of AI may be limited…

Yes you are absolutely correct about most of that not being ai and it is possible I made an apples/oranges comparison there, taken literally. I was trying to show the time difference and make the point that even a first class futurist couldn't have seen today coming. In 1922 electricity was not available in much of rural Indiana and would not be available for 20 more years. Electricity.
We've come a long way baby.
