Has anyone Krylon Painted their ARs? If so does it affect the magpul grips or bcm grips? How does it look and does it effect the other parts of the gun?

I used Krylon on one of mine.
Turned out o.k. Nothing to write home about, but it's o.k.
I put a cammo job on it just for fun and to beat around the woods.
    It's holding up rather well.

It did not affect the factory DPMS grip, or the Blackhawk butt stock.
I would do it again, but it is not a premium finish.

I have a Magpul MOE+ grip. I think the paint wouldn't hold up on the rubberized surface very well. I'd assume most polymers would be fine though.

I did one of mine last year in the Krylon camo colors. I think it turned out well honestly. No its not as durable as having it coated but not nearly as expensive either. So far its held up pretty well and I've ran this rifle through Run-N-Gun a couple times as well. Its now got kind of a wore patina to it. Its held up very well on the grip better than I thought it would. I'm happy with it and glad I went ahead and did it.

Word of caution. I rattlecan'd my second AR with a custom scheme that I thought was neat last summer. Over the winter, it started bothering me. Trying to undo it is not as much fun as the doing of it.

Do whatever makes you happy to own the rifle, though, of course.

Was it acrylic paint? If so I found that isopropyl alcohol works well for removing paint from plastic with little risk of damage

Just paint over it, or add to it.

This goes double for marriage. :(

Top 10 reasons painting your AR is like getting married:

    10) All your buddies are doing it, so you figured you would, too.
    9) Thought yours would be different from all the bad ones out there.
    8) You'd almost done it before, but chickened out.
    7) You love this one, so want to make it special.
    6) Kept it going a long time, so it was time to do something different.
    5) Seemed like the right thing to do at the time.
    4) Thought, "How difficult can it be?"
    3) After the first one, it is easier to do it again.
    2) When you try to undo it, you find all sorts of crap in all sorts of places you didn't even know about.

Matte or flat clear is available as well to cut down the sheen.

As stated in my prev post, I used matte clear.........and it does add sheen to flat camo colors.
Usable, but not nearly as flat as original.

Painter's Choice matte is what I use. Seems pretty decent............but the smell is rather strong.
Done about a half dozen stocks.
