I explain it as a cross between Sprite & Schwepps, plus caffeination.

    Never heard of it.
Limited distribution. Used to be handled by Coca-Cola in some parts of southern Ohio, and Kentucky these days. Centered in Lexington & Winchester, KY
Available in Cans, 6-pk bottles, and sometimes returnable bottles (16oz?).

Glass tastes better as usual, and there's something special about draining a returnable on the baitshop porch on a hot summer afternoon.

I've been known to trigger a credit card fraud warning when I'm in the area buying out the local grocery stores.

Memphis Tennessee, circa 1978, strolling through downtown and thirsty, I spotted a soda vending machine on the sidewalk and thought this was my salvation.
I plunked my $.50 I believe in the machine and eyed my choices.
There was something I hadn't seen or heard of before.
The button said "Rondo", and nothing else.

What the heck, I'll give it a try.
Push the button and a can falls out at the bottom.
I picked the can up and went to pull the top when,
Wait, this is not a normal pop can top.
This thing looks like a can of sardines.
You can see before you pull that the entire can top will peel out!?

I pulled the top off and inside the can was a t-shirt that said Rondo.

    I walked away still thirsty, with a .$.50 t-shirt.
I put my last change into the machine.

Delicious is what it is! Seriously though my Dad's family is from Kentucky I've drank it since I was a kid maybe that's why I like it. Seems like everyone down there loves it, but up here its hit & miss. I'm just glad I can get it locally now.

ALE 8 aka A Late One. Basically sugar, caffeine and something akin to Ginger Ale. Don’t drink it if you have a bad heart or nervous condition.

It can be found in 6 pack bottles at Meijer on the north side of Indy.
Sometimes Kroger and Walmart will have it stocked. Cracker Barrel has single bottles on their soda wall.
Some gas stations have it as well.

The closer you get to the Ohio River the easier it is to come by. And the alternative flavors of it. I seen cherry and peach varieties a few months ago traveling through Ky.

I remember the first time I tried one down around Red River Gorge, KY. All the locals kept telling us to try it, it's amazing, so I finally bought one. Meh was the best I could give it. If it was the only soft drink I would buy another, but all I could think at the time is you people know there are other soft drinks right?
