    A lot of good info in this thread. Only thing I can add is learn how to properly field strip and clean your firearms.

    I'll second this and I'll add buy a cleaning kit.
    Also, consider getting snap caps and a decent case (especially for a long gun, most maunf pistol cases are at least adequate.

    IMO theres two types of safes. Ones that you would buy if your not really worried about theft, just want to keep the kids out. Thats where the cheap safes come in. THen if you are actually worried about theft, theres where the expensive safes come in.

    Ive messed with the cheap ones, theyre sufficient for most people. I wouldnt buy one if I was looking to protect from fire or theft.
