    I particularly like this portion of it:

    "in the last ten days alone over 10 million firearms were purchased in America, and over a billion rounds of ammunition were taken home and put away by U.S. gun owners."

    The article raises some good points, but I'm tired of hearing the "a disarmed populace will be enslaved by the government". There are plenty of reasons that regulating guns won't work, but this one makes the person or organization promoting it sound crazy and causes us to lose credibility. Have the people of any first-world democracy been enslaved by a representative government? There have been plenty of negative consequences of the gun policies in Britain, Australia, etc., but enslavement by a totalitarian gov't is not one of them. Does anyone seriously think that Britain, Australia, Japan, Canada, Germany, France, etc. will abandon democracy? This is paranoia to the Nth degree, and it makes gun owners sound nutty.

    I enjoyed the article and I hope the gun owners of this country will stand united and not accept this attack on our rights. I have emailed my elected representatives this week, and I encourage everyone to do so.

    @LP1

    I find it hilarious you included Germany and Japan in that list. Both countries have not been "democracies" for very long. And honestly, I find your desire to include the United States in with those countries insulting! Not to mention we are a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC!!!!!

    I think that mayhaps you need to brush up on 20th century history a little then come back and try again.

    Mandatory waiting periods for all firearms purchases, nationwide. A 3-day waiting period would not be considered particularly restrictive or unconstitutional.

    Strict federal laws requiring firearms to be secured (locked) in any home where teenagers or children have frequent access. (There is already a federal law on this regarding children under 18, but this could be tightened to cover young adults up to age 20, for example.)

    • Banning of very large 100-round capacity magazines. These drum magazines all suck anyway, as they frequently jam. This is what happened in Aurora. We should only HOPE that all psychopathic killers have 100-round drum magazines... they would kill no one!

    • Mandatory federal background checks for guns sold at gun shows. (This is already required for all commercial dealers. But private transactions are currently exempted from this requirement. This is very likely to be targeted by Obama and Biden, so expect gun shows to be severely restricted in some way.)

    Who is this joker!?! What an idiot! Waiting periods i am abjectly against! Federal laws requiring everything locked with kids in the house? Really!?!? What a maroon, no such thing!!! Plus i'll be DAMNED if i lock my guns away from my kids (all of whom are well trained in the safe and EFFECTIVE use of everything in my safe...as i overheard one guy say after watching my ,then, 12 year old handle the 357 (loaded with some mild loads) and the 1911, "Man, i would almost feel sorry for someone breaking into HIS house!" ;):ar15:) I only lock my guns up when we are away as we live in an, ahhhhh, shall we say questionable neighborhood...i lock them up to keep them safe! I also lock them in a "fire proof" safe in case of fire to protect my "heirloom" guns.

    We dont need anymore stinking restrictions!!!

    It is true that in very, very recent time Western Democracies have not gone totalitarian. But there are countries like Venezuela that have. France has gone practically full Socialist with a 75% tax on the rich, which will undoubtedly make their financial mess worse, and lead to more emergency government power grabs. The UK doesn't have literal slavery, but one could say that their votes are bought and paid for, since far more people are dependent on government handouts than not. So I would argue that Socialism is a form a slavery, or at least servitude. Socialism is the great threat to freedom, and it has overtaken practically every European nation already, and Obama has brought it to our doorstep. At what point does government control become too much? If the government is taking a large part of your paycheck and redistributing it to people who do not work, then are you a slave? If the government has an agenda that opposes your own beliefs/rights, and then uses your own tax money in a campaign to strip you of those rights, or imprison you, then are you a slave?

    A second great threat to freedom is Islam and Sharia law. What is to stop Muslims from taking over European countries once they start obtaining official positions? Spain, Italy, France, etc. could all become totalitarian Islamic Republics like Iran within twenty years. Who can stop them if the changes occur from the top down, through elections?
