They're neat rifles. I've got one that still had its barrel shroud (the Turks often removed them).

    Lovely example!

I really do like mine. It doesn't get shot as much as it really should, though, due to its age. I'm thinking of trading it off for a Steyr M.95 -- straight pulls have always fascinated me.

I had an M95 but got rid of it. It was a carbine. I didn't shoot it all that much and I couldn't find dies to reload for it IIRC. Neat little rifle though, and you used to be able to get them dirt cheap not all that long ago.

I really like the Swiss rifles.

My primary issue with anything Swiss, though, is that they tend to make things too damned well. I have to have something to work on. It's a curse :wallbash:
They really are incredible pieces of engineering. The term "like a Swiss watch" applies to their rifles as well as their time pieces!

I subscribe to Edelweiss Arms' emails and they've got a sale going on now. K11 rifles and carbines under $500. That's where I got my 1896-11.

The butt plate markings on mine indicate it went through a number of German depots, but it never got the stripper clip mods.

    That's pretty cool.

I used to be on the Gew88.com forums and they had a lot of the markings figured out there, but then the site closed down. It was a great resource.
