Picked up a 986 5” today and figured I’d use up some of the pile of reloading stash on it. Figure when/if things settle down I’ll use it for steel challenge. What’s your favorite load for smacking steel?

4gr of n340 pushing 147gr hornady jhp, hornady brass, cci primers.. maybe its just my 9s but they are substantially more accurate with 147gr pills compared to 115gr... when I do load 115s I use 6gr of power pistol.. both of those give me pretty clean burns and accuracy that's acceptable.. with handguns I'm content with 4" groups at 20 yards.

Recently I cast and loaded some 9mm for a friend. I cast using the Lee 356-120-TC mold and sized and lubed the projectiles to .356 inches with my Star lube sizer. The projectiles weighed in at just under 124 grains after lubing. Then I loaded them on top of 4 grains of Red Dot and used Winchester SP primers. They run about 1,100 FPS and are very accurate. Of course, this is what I loaded and no one should load anything without consulting a manual and working up loads on their own!
