I have a kimber pro carry and I am starting to have some grip safety issues with it. Well not really issues but the grip safety has stopped working. No matter what with the thumb safety off it will fire.

I believe its the tongue on the back of the grip safety and I do not believe it is making contact with the trigger bar. Is it possible for the tongue to bend out of spec? Or is it possible to enlongate it?

Reading around on the internet I have seen that the tongue is a wear item; but mine doesnt really show any wear. The parkerization seems intact still.

I am going to guess something with the spring. I doubt you have introduced enough wear for it to be properly fit before and all the sudden stop working completely.

Any chance you took the grip safety out and did not get the tab aligned to block the trigger bow upon reassembly? The grip safety can be reassembled in such a way that it is not obviously wrong.

Looks like the sear spring is correct and that the tab on the grip safety is too short to reach the trigger bow. I just strippped it down and checked function. Time hunt around in the parts box for a grip safety.

if your asking how the safety should work you don't know how it works.....don't mess with it and send it back to Kimber and they will fix it for you so you don't end up with a hole in your leg or someone else...:twocents:

The grip safety on the 1911 is dead simple. The notch lines up with the trigger bar and blocks any rearward movement. There are several reasons this may not be working.
    1. The grip safety is out of spec and the notch does not fully reach the trigger bar.
    2. The entire trigger group was installed incorrectly and something is out of place
    3. The trigger is not fully returning forward. Either there is an obstruction, or the pretravel adjustment is wrong.

Personally, I disable all of my 1911 grip safeties. I have never seen a use for them.
