When I was growing up in Indy there was an “Ammo Book” that had to be signed for the purchase of ammo. My older brother had to sign for me until I turned 18.
Is, or was, Indy Arms a sponsor for Guy Relford? Can’t remember.

Indy Arms does have its challenges for setting up where it is. Its close to where the gangbanger's girls can get to to straw purchase, no lie there.. but they have a good range and due a TON of Business, their stock does turn over a ton, and anything weird that comes in is put up for sale. The parking lot is FULL most times on the weekend.

I would normally never buy ammo there, the only reason I did.. is a couple boxes of 50 round stingers won't break the bank, even if they are over priced. Otherwise their ammo is completely OVERPRICED there..

Go there, to check their constantly turning over stock for weird stuff that comes in. Don't go there for ammo. or.. really the range, the Range is far far busy to try and use.

I don’t shop Point Blank because they want your DL for any purchase. So I guess I’ll add this one to my no go list too.

Wanted my DL so they could create a database of what I purchased. I did buy a few mags instead.

I laughed at "it's our policy" b.s. and bought what I needed at Four Guns in Lafayette when I got back.
That is what Dick's used to do. I showed my ID st Dicks to buy a couple of flats of shot shells. The clerk started populating a digital form. I demanded she stop and get a manager. I believe they were "registering" me. After some tense words he agreed this grey bearded man was over 21 and took my cash.

I was mad at myself the rest of the day for doing business with dick's, but they were the only place that had 20 boxes of 7-1/2 Gun Club shells I needed for the weekend. I never went back.

They actually opened both sealed flats of shells and took each box out of the carton and scanned each box, for all 20 boxes. Then they put the boxes in plastic bags where they opened, spilling loose shells. "We have to do it that way" was all I got from Mr. Mgr. As if the first layer of stupid was not enough.

Back about 1975 or 1980, I think all shops did that bound book entry. I was living in Illinois at the time and I thought it was because I was from out of state, even though I had a valid FOID from Illinois. Seemed like a lot of bother for a 79 cent box of .22 wildcats

Broad Ripple is full of bangers?!? Granted, I haven't lived there in 20+ years but back in my day Broad Ripple was the artsy-fartsy district and all the bangers were west of the children's museum and on out to 38th & 465.

Would be interesting to find out the real reason for their bs. I understand checking ID for age verification but when you swipe that magnetic strip on your ID, digital info is exchanged and becomes a traceable digital record.

Well its also not Broad Ripple proper. Its on Keystone around 55th street. Off to the East in an industrial park.

The location is very safe, and near some really nice areas.. however.. its within range of the Gang Banger's barely running Hoopty vehicles to get to, and its not far out from the Eastside ether. So yeah I suspect it being the closest big shop to all the bad areas, does see a huge gangbanger traffic (well they get their girls to go in there and nab them whatever.)

Its really just the closest shop to all the bad areas, even though itself isn't in a particularly bad area.

I believe he's listed as a training advisor. He teaches his Essentials of Indiana Gun Law class there about once a quarter or so.

If you can go through the week it's much better than on the weekend. The range is smaller than places like Point Blank, but I like going there better than going to Point Blank personally. On weekdays from 10 - 2 they have a lunch special where they only charge $10 for an hour of range time. I go pretty much every Monday and have for the last year. I really enjoy the place but no, I won't buy my ammo there. While I haven't run into the problem Kirk did, they charge around double what you can buy ammo for pretty much anywhere else.

Never had a problem there before with that, very odd, shop there all the time myself.

Same. While their ammo prices are horrid, everything else is pretty much in line with any other gun shop/range I've visited. Range prices are pretty decent, especially if you can go during the lunch special I mentioned above.

Wal-Mart has been doing this for about 8 years. I went in once they asked for my DL I asked why. They told me federal law I said BS show me. Then they said corporate policy. I left without purchasing anything and haven't been back. Never heard anyone complain about Wal-Mart doing it.

Mark was the manager at IA after leaving Bradis, and hopefully still is. He’s a good dude and I’m betting if there’s an ID situation, it’s an ownership decision, not management.

Don’t shoot the messengers but I’m sure the owners have email addresses.
AGES ago, I think the numerous complaints on INGO about Mark's previous employer not accepting Indiana ID cards as a form of official ID for firearms purchases lead to that establishment changing their position.

I've not darkened that door since they fired him.

I do wish Mark were still on INGO - but too many doofuses here drove him (and many other like him) off. If he were here - he could potentially explain and/or defend the position.

I do know that like any other retail establishment, the quality of the "help" varies a great deal. And we ALL like to figuratively shake our heads at the gun counter employee B.S.

I've used Indy Arms' range before. It's a really nice range. I've even shot in exactly 1 GFFS match and didn't do too terribly. After my dad passed away several years ago, I utilized a little of that inheritance to purchase some NFA items that they and Sig gave me a good deal on. That was a pretty seamless experience.

I also like to browse while I'm there. In general though, they seem to be on or over the high end of what I'd like to pay for stuff.

They probably already have your data if you shoot there…

Been there a few times and did deal directly with Mark once.
Like most gun stores, ammo prices are on the high side so only in a pinch would I purchase any.
