Am I a bad person for finding this change at Atterbury a bit comical? I mean it just seems a bit absurd to me. It must be a joke...

A friend I shoot with who is in a wheel chair would certainly appreciate being able to get down to the targets easily. Seems the purpose is to put folks like that close to the paved path .

My friend shoots IDPA, Steel Challenge, and .22 precision.

Just curious - why would you think it's a joke?
it just struck me as kinda silly that's all. nothing else has changed, the range is as accessible now as it was before "they" designated one lane as handicapped. I honestly thought it was a joke.
My apologies to any snowflakes i may have offended. It was not my intention. I thought i might bring a smile.

Your attempt at humor has missed the mark. No snowflakes were offended, but the guy in the wheelchair appreciates your consideration.

I’m not a snowflake, I think your sense of humor is a bit off kilter. And I don’t apologize for telling you so.

Do you have any idea what the ADA is? Hint the first “a“ is American.

Do you have any idea how many vets must have this lane free to enjoy a day of sport?

I better get off of here before I get a spanking. Hey @BigRed move over and make room on the bench!!!

I haven't been there in a while myself, but maybe this is the lane close to the entrance.

That would be nice for a fat old crippled disabled veteran like myself. Who walks with a cane every day. (or a walker on bad days)

In fact... that's one reason I have been preferring to go over to Jasper/Pulaski. They let handicap people (like me) use the lane on the end... and park right up behind the bench where I can grab my stuff right out of the vehicle. Able bodied shooters park in the back row, and pack their weapons and ammo up to the bench. With the handicap person in the last row, the range officer doesn't have his view of the range obscured by any other vehicles.

BTW: Did you happen to notice if they installed auto opening doors? It was always a PITA to wrestle with the door closers with a cane or walker, and guns and ammo at the same time unless you have somebody with you to help... and NO... they don't come out from behind the counter to help... nor do they have that little cart anymore.

A while back, I busted a leg and ended up on crutches for a good stretch. I learned a lot from being gimpy for a stretch. Having a parking spot near a door is a big plus. So is an alternative to stairs. If this helps gunners, so be it.

I went into a Wendy's one day for a quick lunch. After I ordered an paid, it hit me that I've got to get to my table with this tray and my hands full of crutches. Almost immediately, the guy behind me said, "You go sit down and I'll bring your stuff over to you". Just a little thing like that was a HUGE help.

ETA: Able bodied people that park in spots reserved for handicapped folks should be ran over.... then they can get the spot they desire so much.
