Never fear guys. Help is on the way. Uncle Sugar Holcomb will be there shortly, with state grants to internet providers to run fiber to your door. It's like an information superhighway or something.

It's funny this doesn't have more outrage attached to it, as the furor has died down over the years. Uncle Sugar paid the telco companies tons and tons of money to run the infrastructure, which they took and then didn't do the work. Not only that, but then they increased their prices. I'ts not a myth that people have short memories.

Wait. What are we talking about?
LOL. Hey. INGO can turn conversation topics on a dime. :):

We're now talking about the plan diabolical scheme that that chamber-o-commerce Republicans like Holcomb has concocted to bring high speed fiber to rural areas, which seemed to spend lots of money for not a lot of service. They've spent hundreds of millions of dollars to bring high speed internet to around 70K people in the state. ~2.2 million hoosiers live in rural areas. Efficient, eh?

I'd like to see the discussion circle around with how the hillbillies getting Internet access will cause more rage. I figure by lunch it'll be there, then back to food discussions...

Oh shut up. I was stuck with 5mb dsl for $74 for years as that was my ONLY option. In Zionsville. Now we have Tmobile 5G for $50 and it feels like time travel.
We get 20 down and 1 up! That is actually a huge improvement for us, especially being this far out in the country.
Internet access is getting better, but is still abysmal, especially if you live in a very rural area. I'm 20 - 25 minutes outside of Indy and have had ATT fiber for about 5 years. Before that it was :poop: Comcrap service. While ATT DSL sucks hard, their fiber service (1Gig up and down) has been fantastic.

I still remember being in the middle of nowhere in rural Minnesota in 98 and being ecstatic that they had SDSL service (256k) for $50 a month and it was good service. That was when dial up was still common.
Sounds like you guys need Starlink, it's amazing!

I had Starlink a few months before the power company ran fiber down our very rural road. Now I'm on 1gb service for $93 a month and when we lost power for days, it was still up...

We have it when the power is out now as well. Starlink is way too expensive for us.

I will see what I can do…. Yes, faster internet in rural areas will let all of us white guys finally learn about what the gubmint is doing to our rahts. This is where the mythical “silent majority” lives. In the woods and blissfully unaware of the wider world, because of slow internet. I hear tell there is something called “amazing, Amahon, Amazon, or something g like that where you can tell total strangers to bring stuff to you on trucks. Apparently all you have to do is give them some numbers off of a piece of plastic! Not even money or gold!

    Ha.

What's funny is all my Amazon packages come via USPS, typically in two days. But just 1/2 mile to the east, Amazon would deliver themselves, same day.

Coming up on 14 years at our current home. At first, dial up service which was crappy but not a huge deal in '05 for us. Eventually as our needs grew we were able to get MediaCom DSL for fifty-something $$/month. The service and speed got worse as price climbed to $150/month. 1 1/2 years ago Kosciusko Connect ( Kosciusko Co. REMC ) ran fiber to us. 100 MBPS @ $49.95/month; 500 MBPS @ $64.95/month; 1,000 MBPS @ $79.95/month. We went with the 500 and couldn't be happier. With a set of mesh extenders I have wi fi in my shop as good as in house. Just did a speed test on iPad using wi-fi and had 477 down and 478 up.

Mom wants to sell my boyhood home to me out in extreme NE Hendricks county. Low enough density that nobody wants to install internet infrastructure. I need fast internet at home for work, and even cell service there isnt that great for a cell hotspot. I MIGHT be able to make do with Starlink. So with that limitation, moving out there is a no-go.

I got excited a few years ago. I saw directional boring gear out there burying something down the mile length of her road. Sure enough, a big spool of fiber appeared. Even more exciting. But what was odd, is the fiber was running down the side of the road with only 2 houses (and farm fields) . How are they going to connect the houses? bore under the street 40x?

Then everything disappeared and there were only a couple pedestals on the entire length. Turns out it was long haul fiber, not last mile fiber. Her road just happened to be where they wanted to go. :tantrum:

So........I guess the white rural rage being talked about has to do with internet speeds? Good to know...
Internet speeds and ups/fedex/usps deliveries. Our internet is slow, like I said earlier 20 down and 2 up, but we seem to be able to do most things. The only issue is when people want to do multiple hi bandwidth things at the same time. That is when our white rage sets in, although a guy down the road is Native American and he has the same complaint.
