I’m considering a Taurus 856 2” Barrel in .38 Special with a bobbed hammer as my daily carry. It’s inexpensive, 6 rounds, good quality (at least from what I hear), and makes for a great concealed carry piece. Please let me know your experiences with this revolver, or give me recommendations for other great revolvers around this price range. Thank you in advance and stay safe.

Shoot it a bunch to make sure it works reliably and that you can be proficient with it. So long as you and it meet those criteria, there's nothing wrong with a snubby revolver as a carry gun for the average guy who doesn't go around looking for trouble, or get sent to it as part of his job. There are situations where I want something bigger with more rounds on tap, but also plenty of others where I'm perfectly happy with just the 2" 640 in my pocket.

From what I've heard Taurus has been getting better in regard to quality control and reliability. If you get one that works they're a pretty good value. Charter Arms also make some stuff in that price range, I believe, but I have very little experience with them.

I've Worked on several Taurus Revolvers over the years including a new 856 and they are fine and a decent value.
Like anything else you get what you pay for and they are not S&W quality or Ruger for that matter but they seem well made and ANY manufacture can let bad ones get out.
The 856 I just finished turned out great and put holes in the target and I would not have any issue carrying it or shooting it in a match(with a grip change as I hated the grips it came with:))
I seen some S&W guns that it was embarrassing and I recommend the customer send it back to S&W and let them fix it instead of paying me to fix what should have never left the factory.
Years ago the Taurus revolvers could have heat treating problems with the internals and problems would arise after high round counts. This was in competition revolvers that were shoot way more than 99% of the revolvers they made and it was not every one of them. They seem to be much more consistence now.

Do you specifically want a revolver? There are semi auto 9s in a similar price range that'll also be cheaper to practice with (Walther PPS, some of the polymer CZs, PSA dagger, the Taurus g2c/g3c, to name a few)

Smith & Wesson has a $50 rebate on wheel guns right now so you could pick up a 440 or 640 for about $350 if you look.

Thank you for the info, I’ll definitely look into those models. Unfortunately I’m limited to private sale only because I’m under 21. I can die in war but can’t buy a handgun through an FFL. Crazy laws we have.

I’ve heard this was a good pocket holster. Very affordable, might be even cheaper at your local Dunhams. I was gonna pick one up when I purchased my revolver.

Not sure if this is a good price for one of these or not...

    $249.95

You can choose to pick up at Marksman in Westfield and avoid the shipping and I believe avoid a transfer fee.

Good guns to carry. Just practice a bit, clean and go. Bobbed hammer is a pocket piece for sure.(or a 442 S&W). Have had most and only one that acted up was a Colt Detective.
Charter Arms, S&W, Taurus, all performed well.
