"The organization needs to find better ways to support the clubs and the dedicated volunteer staff that we all benefit from." - My local IDPA club provides annual safety officer classes for free & that organization doesn't limit the number of trainers to a tiny handful. I think that would be a step in the right direction.

Just curious and maybe Jake can report. What, if any, is the process for monitoring the criminal back ground checks of the membership. Does the NRA do it? Is it something too negative that is avoided? What is the liability of a shooting sport, gun range or club in harbouring a criminal in the membership.

IANAL, but taking $40 from someone =/= "harboring" them.

That's awesome. Now IDPA can figure out how to make the rules understandable by all the free trainees. I started shooting a bit last year and I would say there is at least one scenario per match where the "S.O." doesn't know what's legal. The state match had multiple issues with the staff knowing the rules. It was frustrating.

I agree with you on USPSA RO certification. Put it online and have a local CRO, RM, or someone do the range certification and make it free. I am sure there are caveats I haven't thought about, but lower the bar of entry.

This sport is about local matches and clubs. Period. B/C class shooters busting their butts on weekends to stand up matches. The organization is 99% "mediocre nobodies". 95% of the 99% couldn't tell you who won nationals last year. So yes, more support. Hell, send an email to the MD once in a while that ISN'T just asking for money.

Yea, both sports have their challenges, IDPA needs a decent rule book and a means to score targets with close to the line hits that doesn't rely on friction and windage and weather or not the person looking at the target is in a generous mood, in my opinion.

When I told the state idpa coordinator that the classes were free and I didn’t pay anything, he said that he wouldn’t do that, that he’d charge people to take the class!

That’s one reason why I didn’t take the USPSA ro class, it was over 100 bucks plus hotel (it’s a 2 day class) plus a separate certification for steel challenge! (Luckily it’s online) and you have to re-certify every year (idpa is 2 years)

Our steel challenge chairman worked the region 5 match last year, he was paid to work, got his hotel paid, got meals at the match, a staff dinner, a staff jersey, his mileage was paid, and got a per diem for other expenses!, so after that 1 match, he’d gotten a return on his investment!

He asked me if I wanted to become a USPSA ro…I said nope, I’m happy with my idpa so, there’s way too many different things to have to remember if I was certified in both!

Wow, if you work enough matches it’d be like endless summer. Maybe retirement needs to include being an RO!

I am a little late to the party, but I do have to say the organization does not do their selves any favors with the constant upheaval due to poor management. I just became a RO at personal expense to me simply to help cover our Steel Challenge matches. 4 of us were going to go one bailed after the pre course because he diddnt want to be a USPSA RO he wanted to Ro for steel challenge. Three of us participated in the course, we’ll run course BTW, but I am not sure we learned anything to further our steel challenge club, I was the only one who ultimately did my test because the other two had no desire to be USPSA RO’s they just want to help with the steel challenge matches.

Why USPSA has so many national matches I do not understand. Seems like a good way to spend a lot of money to me.
We will try it for another year but outlaw steel was a lot of fun before we took this route.

National matches are all expense paid vacation for the USPSA staff. Plus sponsors give guns. ammo, accessories to them that they sometimes keep and/or sell for untaxed profits.
This is been proven in leaked emails and other means.

You and I have very different ideas of a vacation. The amount of work to put on these matches is huge you obviously have never been to the nationals and for sure never actually worked one of the nationals or you wouldn't be saying that.
For that matter have you ever helped set up or run local matches?
Some of us actually like to shoot matches and hang out with friends and that requires some one to set up and run the matches. Some like to hang out on Instagram and Facebook and cry about what others are doing.

I agree that for those just shooting SCSA the entire USPSA RO cert class is overboard.

It became about you when you make comments like you did without having a clue what you are talking about.
I haven't seen any proof that ANYTHING you posted has been proven correct.
If it is in front of the courts then nothing has been proven.

I agree with longbeard people just wanting SCSA RO certification shouldn't have to take a class that is mostly about another discipline.
This is one of my big faults with USPSA. They want more RO's which helps at every level of the sport and yet they want potential RO's or clubs to foot a rather large bill to get a local class. People have to devote a whole weekend and some have to foot a motel bill and travel expenses and food just to get certified just to be a volunteer.:dunno:
USPSA I here the question all the time from clubs and members alike what does USPSA do for me?
Well offering these seminars for free would be a start and a better use of the dues we pay and would help the future of the sport.:twocents:
