Do you all believe that there is more value in preserving this Colt Lightning Model 1877 or selling it for parts?

I currently own this piece but have no interest in seeking out the parts needed to restore this, but want to know what you all would recommend?

Seems a shame to keep such a neat piece of history in the safe to never be put back together.

    Thank you all!

    Not sure I understand.
"^^This!!^^" is forum-speak for agreeing with the replied-to post. I was going to recommend @Leadeye as a subject matter expert on these old Colts, @DoggyDaddy posted pretty much the same thing (including the white courtesy phone shtick) I was going to post.

"^^" points at the replied-to post, and "^^This!!^^" is quicker for a two-finger typist than posting, "I'd like to concur with this post and had I been a bit quicker, I'd have posted this myself."

Edit: you have P-38 Lightnings in your avatar and you are from Salem. We should talk sometime.

    .
Looking at the picture you may not have much to part out other than the latch, pin, cylinder, backstrap, hammer and barrel. All of the mechanism pins are missing which would indicate that all the parts they likely held together are gone, possibly parted out. You could sell the remaining parts on Ebay but as they aren't the stuff that breaks they will sell slow. In "working" condition these sell for about 500-700 on GB.

You have what's known as the "shopkeeper" version, probably 3.5 inch barrel and no ejector.

My parents actually shipped me off to a private school called Graceland, guess i was too much trouble. haha
No wonder it didn't sound familiar, looks like it opened 21 years after I graduated.
