All that is the key reason we are supposed to be a representative Republic. Otherwise the masses rule and that is not always a good thing. If you have 5 women and 15 men and have a vote on whether the men can have sex with these women the men will win that majority vote and that is a bad thing. Just like all these people who pay no taxes but get to vote themselves more money just like Congress and the Senate.

sounds awfully like the presidential election we just came through. alot of people voting that don't support the system although get support from the system. highest voter turnout ever in certain demographics. huh, coincedence i guess. :+1:

And what percentage of those 47% get a huge welfare check every year called the earned income credit?

    You don't pay 30K... you pay 28K.

If you're single and your adjusted income is 100K, you will pay 21,713. If your gross is 100K and you take your individual exemption you will pay less than that. If you are married and/or have children you will pay a lesser rate, AND you will have more deductions so that lower rate will be applied to a lower adjusted number.

Look, I'm not defending the tax system, the amount is bad enough, we don't have to make it worse than it is.

Lets not forget the 7 to 9% tax we pay in state taxes on products too.

It makes me sick when I see the situation that we have gotten into.

It's much, much worse than that. All the hidden taxes and costs we pay, like for instance when our employer "pays" the other half of our FICA tax.

Everyone is familiar with the quote but it seems appropriate to repeat.

Ben Franklin- When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.

It seems to me that everyone should have to pay something, so that they feel like they have a stake in the country. It just isn't good for one's moral character to go through life on the dole and never contribute to society. I think there was something to be said for the requirements of being a property owner or taxpayer in order to vote. I know that is unlikely to be a popular idea now. But we are now in the position where the takers outnumber the workers. So we are on a very dangerous path where the Representatives of this electorate will continue to vote more benefits for the takers to secure their next vote.

There's a lot to be said for it. You ought to have some skin in the game if you want to participate. It's like sitting at a poker table and playing with matchsticks and everyone else is playing with money. Of course you'll bet your matchsticks against my dollars.

Just to stir things up, but an even larger percentage of corporations don't pay taxes either.

Leave it up to me, and you get 1 vote for every $1000 in taxes you pay. Receipts required.

don't overlook the fact that the corporations are supposed to be the ones taxed by the guberment and individuals are left to the taxed by the state. its unconstitutional for the federal government to tax the working mans income. the reason our economy is so upside-down at this point is the coroporations who are supposed to supply the tax structure to the governemnt are taking tax dollars to off-set poor business decisions. meanwhile, the working man is getting taxed higher and higher to make up for what the coroporations are not supplying and also taking away. having a stake in this country goes beyond having to pay taxes. if this were so i would own a little bit of GM and should receive a kick-back for their profits, but thats not gonna happen. so, in the mean time take what you can get while the gettings good. before long the governement will start to close the legal "loopholes" that allow us to have exemptions like children and work. instead of the government going after the working man for money wouldn't it make more sense to tax the corporations and then provide incentives for them to operate in the US with American workers. of course that means cutting down the welfare system whos services have gotten exploited.

I got news for you: no corporation anywhere, at any time, pays taxes. All taxes are paid by the consumer. Corporations paying taxes is an impossible dream where the money to do so appears out of thin air.

The thing that i find most ironic is that every time we get a new entitlement program thrust upon us by our wonderful elected "leaders," everyone is quick to say lets tax the rich because they can afford it. The problem is the definition of "rich" now amounts to "those who are responsible and make good choices."

true and so goes the constitution. individual income was not meant to be taxed. consumable goods are meant to be taxed by the state. the government was essentially supposed to make its buck off of import and export goods paid by corporations and then tax the corporations on the capital funds from the sale to the public. spending is so out of hand that the government cannot tax those corportations becasue of all the tax levies in place and the free trade garbage. so, joe public is left to flip the bill so every congressman or woman is guaranteed to make at least 200,000 in a fiscal year and have 18 weeks of vacation with fee travel. it'll never change so i have no hard feelings in taking back every red cent i have given to the gooberment and then if i can squeeze a little more out in the end, its party time baby! i don't feel those that don't put into the system should have the same luxuries though. the only way to solve that problem is abolish welfare the way we know it and that would signal the appocolypse!

You guys realize that any tax levied on a corporation are just passed on to the consumer through higher product prices, don't you? Taxing corporations are one of the few things the founders got wrong. Not only does the consumer pay 100% of a corporatios taxes, they also pay for the corporations costs associated with adhering to the tax code, ie accountants, tax lawyers, etc. Why not cut out the middle man?
