Got an invite from a friend I have not had the opportunity to hang out with for a LONG time.

We got to spend a few hours shooting sporting clays.

Great fun.....always makes me wanting for birds though.

Clays are great....but there is nothing like being in the field with a shotgun and a good dog.

Recently my daughter (19) has expressed an interest in giving pheasant hunting a try. I know there are public land put & take hunts, but those can be difficult without a dog. Also, based on precious experience, there are way too many hunters per area and too many knuckleheads shooting recklessly.
So, anyone have any recommendations for any hunting preserves here in IN?

I've not gone through all the pages in this thread.

Have you got your girl out?

Some guys inviited me out for sporting clays this past week.

Always great fun, but always leaves me hungry for walking with good dogs and birds.

Hoping to get out a bit this winter....some good stuff.

Got to see my buddy and his new bird pup....got to enjoying the time and didn't take pics!

I've not hunted behind a Munsterlander before, but this pup seems to be one hell of a dog!

Life has many blessings...high on that list is the blessing of a good dog (and that is not in any way limited to bird dogs).

When growing up we had a pair of beagles, one a standard beagle, another a redbone. Then dad had a German short hair and I had a Black and Tan coonhound. Neighbor asked dad if he could take a rabbit dog out for a hunt, uncharacteristically dad said yes. After a few days dad asked him how the hunt was. He stuttered and stammered and finally told dad our rabbit dog wasn't worth a hoot and hard to catch. Dad asked him which dog he took, he took the coon hound!! Dad told him to take one of the spotted ones. A few days later he told dad he still didn't think much of his hard to catch rabbit dog. Yep, he took the German Shorthair! Enough was enough, dad told him, "well, you took the best dog we own, sorry for your luck!!" :wallbash::lmfao::dunno::ugh::lmfao::lmfao::lmfao: Broke him of asking for a rabbit dog. Next season he came with us on a hunt and never commented that he didn't take one of these two!:dunno::ugh:

I’ve been to both Lost River and Sugar Creek 2x each. All great people with great dogs and guides. I was most recently at Lost River two weeks ago and thankfully the avian flu did not hit the place! Had a great time with the “ Two Bobs”! Go and you will understand! :rockwoot:
