Me and a buddy were talking about this very thing yesterday, wondering if you would get stitches in your fore head or your eye put out. Assuming that’s a 45-70
    It is 45-70.

I have actually seen a guy shoot one. It spun right around and drove the hammer into his hand.

I decided not to take a turn at it.

I can see that. We’re both big fisted and couldn’t see how you could keep it in your hand when it goes bang. Figured it would rip out of your grip and smack you in the head. You would need strong skinny fingers to hold on to it.

I decided to put my order in. For the record I've dealt with 3 different people either from asking questions and ordering, to conformation. All the people at Noreen have been absolutely wonderful.
They've been selling like hot cakes since the 12/2/22 release, current lead time is 8wks with a no later than 10wks.
I'll post some pics and review once I get it you ol' sticks in the mud

If I recall correctly, in the late 90s a bolt action, 50 bmg pistol was built, and the guys 13 year old daughter did the demonstration shooting. I'll have to check the old FCSA Very high power magazines for the article.

I vaguely remember that. I seem to recall that it was some backhanded way to get some state that regulates handgun ammo more strictly to regulate .50BMG under that authoritarian umbrella.

Pretty sure the AFT, in their infinite ineptitude, has banned some rifle ammo, because there was ammo available in that caliber that meets their definition of armor piercing ammo, and then a handgun was chambered for it, thereby creating "armor piercing handgun ammo" which is legally verboten..
    • Banned Chinese 7.62x39mm, because of their use of mild steel cores, despite the fact this was a cost-saving measure only, and doesn't actually increase penetration any.
    • Recently banned Russian 5.45x39mm 7n6 ammo, if I recall correctly, because someone started marketing a pistol ak in 5.45.
    • Recently TRIED to ban 5.56x45mm M855 ammo, because of the increasing popularity of AR pistols (and presumably braces). Fortunately, there were enough AR owners who raised a big enough stink about it to reverse the decision.
Seems like making a 50BMG handgun is a surefire way to get the AFT to ban 50BMG ammo altogether, since I'm pretty sure they'd argue it's all AP, since they like to play fast & loose with their regulations and definitions...

Mark Serbu, known for cheaper (relatively, but still excellent) 50BMG firearms, mentioned in a recent YouTube video that he's never attempted to make a 50BMG handgun precisely because he doesn't want to be 'that guy' who gets 50BMG ammo banned. Pretty sure this was in one of his recent videos on his one-off Butt-Master .22LR pen gun.

He did some ballistic simulations on his PC (pretty sure he used QuickLoad software) showing that a handgun length 50BMG would still have a significant power increase over other big calibers in rifle length barrels, such as 300WinMag, despite the velocity loss, the huge fireball and concussion it'll produce. He seemed to think a 50BMG handgun would not only be commercially viable, but technically useful too. But he doesn't want to risk incurring the AFTs wrath on 50BMG.

I highly recommend his YouTube videos, with entertaining topics of gunsmithing, machining, theory, etc.

I'd shoot it. I would be more worried about the percussion out of such a short barrel.
My Barrett with a 29 and a 20 is like a slap in the face. A shorter barrel would be crazy.

If it's like other videos of guys firing that or similar rigs, it'll be pretty uneventful. There's a video of a guy firing one in each hand and they barely move. Muzzle blast seems like a bigger concern than recoil.
