@Haven owns one. My wife used to carry one. They are decent pistols for the money. STOOOOPID long DAO trigger. But you get used to it.

We put several hundred rounds through it and I dont think she could ever get it to malfunction except for when she wouldnt quite get the mag seated.

I'd carry one if I had to.

I've owned and shot the SCCY CPX-1. Reliable, yes, it went bang every time I pulled the trigger.

I really tried to like it. It fit my hand and pointed well. But found it to have a very harsh recoil. It wasn't enjoyable to practice with, so it was removed from my collection.

I dont recall the CPX-2 being unpleasant to shoot. I just really disliked the trigger.

    Reliable, yes.
    Good option, yes (maybe).
They are not the only low cost option by any means.
Can the person work it's long trigger pull? I wouldn't suggest it for someone with smaller hands.
I have not priced them, so I am not sure? I do know you see a lot of them around here. Pretty sure she is not looking for a bullseye piece rather a in case of emergency break glass one.

Yes, the trigger was a long heavy pull and long reset, but that was what I was expecting from a DAO compact pistol. Accuracy was as expected.

I just couldn't get past the harsh recoil ... maybe I just have soft hands? I suppose that in an emergency defensive situation, the recoil wouldn't even register. I just like to practice more and practice wasn't enjoyable.

Thanks one of my wife’s co workers is in need of a cost effective tool. Unfortunately circumstances dictate a very tight budget. My wife let her know that she is welcome to come practice at our place.
Have her go to a LGS that will let her pull the trigger. (not a big box store that uses trigger guards) Or even better, a range that will rent her one.

She might not like that looooooong trigger. If I were closer I'd bring mine over for her to try. (And I dont know the next time I'll be in your neck of the woods)

Thanks I think my wife and she are going out to lunch this week. I will suggest they do that. I am trying to stay out of this one. My wife is good at helping new owners. Plus I think women feel more comfortable since women utilize different carry methods etc.

I picked up a CPX-2 a year ago for my granddaughter and we've put several hundred rounds through it without a hiccup and she likes shooting it. The trigger didn't bother her at all and she shoots it fairly well. We've done various brands of JHP and ball ammo and it feeds everything. It is a good close range SD gun with 11 round capacity with 1 in the pipe and 10 round mag.

The new DVG-1 is supposed to be a good gun also from the reviews that I've read and the are very reasonably priced. I think that I've seen them advertised at RK and Dunham's for $289.

My dad bought a SCCY years ago and it had feeding issues. I polished the feed ramp, but he never had a chance to see if that fixed it. This was their 1st generation of pistols, so they may have gotten better. I thought my Kel-Tec P11 was much better.

As others mentioned above, check out the Taurus G2c or G3c. I also feel they would be better choices if you are counting $$.

The DVG-1 is striker fired, and the trigger is supposed to be WAY better than the CPX series.

I have a CPX-2, and it has fired every shot I have put through it. It works, it is small, I could use it as a pocket pistol if I wanted. They are not expensive.

I will point out that they keep improving the guns. They now have optics cuts, and rails, etc.

I will say, I have moved on to a Hellcat for my carry gun. The SCCY though has some things going for it. It is cheap, so if it gets taken after an incident, not that big a deal. You can pick up the CPX series for usually under $200.

MCARBO has a trigger kit, I bought it, but I haven't installed or had it installed in it yet.

Tight budget means different things to different people. Can you give us a dollar range? There's some real bargains out there on things like police trade ins and full size .38 revolvers, full size .40's, and the like that have fallen out of style but are still very solid choices over the dart-gun like SCYY.

i have two g2cs. one in .40 and one in 9mm. very good pistols. the .40 is snappy for sure but the 9 is very comfy.

if you get a g2c look into the keep tinkering trigger replacement. it takes the g2c from very good to excellent in about 20 mins

I have the CPX 2 and have never had an issue with it after maybe 400 rounds...As others said, the trigger pull is terrible but like anything, if you practice with it you can overcome that....Rural King had the Taurus G2c for 199.00 last week i think...might also be worth a look....If you can find a used CPX 2 they are usually pretty cheap...I picked up a stainless one last fall used at a gunshop for $125.00 with an extra mag....check local shops maybe...Good Luck
