Will be moving to Warsaw in the near future. Bought a house on the south side near the High School. We are moving there to be closer to family as we enter retirement.

Curious about the gun shops and shooting ranges in the local area?

Also curious about crime, politics and support for the 2nd Amendment in the local area? Hoping it does not turn into the Peoples Republic of Bloomington in the near future.

I am going to miss shooting at the Elwood Conservation club.

I grew up in Warsaw. Left in 2009 for college but still get back often as my parents and many friends still live there.

There are two gun shops that I know of, Albertsons on US30 east of town and Two Bear Arms west of town. Both of them seem like prices are high but every time I have been in Two Bear Arms they have had a good selection. Two Bear Arms also has a range but I have never shot there.

My dad was a member at the Warsaw Rifle and Pistol Club and liked it. I went out there a couple of times and it seemed like a nice range. If you like shooting clays Kosko Shotgun Sports used to be really nice. I'm sure it still is, it has just been over 10 years since I have been there.

Not much major crime in the area. There is a local new station called Ink Free News that can keep you up to date on everything going on. They post jail bookings everyday that I enjoy reading to see who I know that was arrested.

I don't know much about their politics as I wasn't interested in that when I was in high school but I believe it is a pretty conservative town.

    Welcome to the Lakes area ( I am 8-9 miles N of 15&30 ) !

If you wish to explore Warsaw Rifle and Pistol Club, let me know. Was membership director for 10 years, just this year “ retired” but am still a member. Expat mentioned Tri-County ( north of North Webster )…that was where I started when I moved here. That led me to find WRP Club...used to joke it was the best salesman for WR&P Club we had ( there are reasons why ).

My personal opinion. #1 Forget Albertson’s, period for anything firearm related - for instance $50 FFL transfer fee. #2 People liked 2 Bear Arms when it opened, not so much anymore. #3 Take a drive and go to ZX in the Fort or Goshen, or Midwest Gun Exchange in Mishawaka. #4 For FFL transfers use ZX ($25) or ADT Firearms ($25).

Warsaw is a nice, little town. Lots of money around that area will all the big medical companies there.

Watch 30 in town as cops sit along there 24/7. Traffic can get heavy on that road but with the new 30 going in and bypassing Warsaw it will clear out most of the traffic.

Don't forget the TriCounty Fish and wildlife area just north of town.
    +1

The range is fairly nice. Been there once 10+ years ago with some friends and I thought it was a good place to shoot. I've got my own range so I don't use it.

Precision Arms in Columbia City is a fairly decent little gun shop.

Lake City Skiers. A hidden gem that puts on a fantastic show. Ages 6 to 90.

It's a free ski stunt show every Sunday evening and Tuesday (I think).

It's on the SW corner of the US 30/ SR15 interchange.

Welcome! Currently in Warsaw, but expecting to move around early October. :(

I’ll miss how quiet and peaceful it is here for sure, so you have that to look forward to! It really is beautiful here!

Nice town. My son went to college in Winona Lake, so we were over there regularly for 3 years. I think living there would be great. Not a true LGS, but there's an R.P. Home and Harvest (formerly Big R) right on 30 that sells guns and ammo and has decent sales from time to time. There's also a Dunhams in Columbia City which isn't too far down 30.

Live there 2 years and been going there for 61 years, live just South of there not to far. Good town has everything including a church on every corner. Several years ago my sons wife working there got pulled over. Cop took her gun away from her. Then put in in her back seat before leaving. My son went in next day to talk to chief how unlawful they were doing this. Cop told him they could of arrested her cause her current address on permit wasn’t current. Son went off on him! Told him they had reported it to state police and you don’t have to get new permit just got that. Told him to call state police. He figured out real quick my son knew what he was talking about. For months after that my son opened carried everywhere in Warsaw. Nothing. Hopefully that police force got educated and up to speed on officer safety. I give Warsaw a good grade to live in, if you like city life.

    Pretty much Michigan.
I frequent Warsaw, theres a couple gun shops that aren’t that great, but there is a brand new Rural King. Like BT said, ZX up US15 in goshen or there is another ZX down 30 in Ft.Wayne but there are probably a dozen others within an hour drive. K-county is pretty pro 2A and Warsaw is no different. I live in Noble so I don’t know all the details off the top of my head. Tri-county fish and wildlife is my preferred range and its free. Lots of good eating in Warsaw too. Welcome to the area!

Also do yourself a favor, go to Rise’n Roll by walmart and pick up some cinnamon caramel donut holes. Its Amish crack.

Thanks for all the replies. Wife and I are looking forward to moving there. Been doing volunteer work at Quaker Haven camp for several years. Both daughters have been on staff there. We plan on attending Dewart Lake Church.

When I retire in a few months, I plan on volunteering 2-3 days a week at the camp. The rest of the time will be for projects, shooting, kayaking, bike riding, book reading and whatever else my wife dreams up. Also want to upgrade my amatuer radio licence to General.

Wife is from Goshen and has lots of family there. I like the fact that we are far enough away, that they won't be "dropping in". I like them, but sometimes I don't know how to relate to them. Her family is like the Clevers. Mine was more like the Mansons (most are now long dead pill-billies).

I was passing through and tried to buy a rifle at two bears. It was a little above market, but not by much, so I asked them what they would do on it. They wouldn't budge a dime, so I kept my money.
