The Corsair and Mustangs were my favorites as a kid. For jets, it was the F86 and F15. The F15 is plain old good looking. Newer fighters have an ungainly look, as if a Brit designed them.
The Corsairs were freaking huge. But the double stack Pratt & Whittney made ample power to turn the 4-blade prop with authority. And the dropped wing design to keep that big prop out of the ground taking off was really genius.
The F-15 is not an airframe I paid much attention to. Now I will go look it up.

I was always drawn to the B17 flying fortress, mom and dad always watched 12 O’Clock High when I was growing up. Also liked and had models of the P38 lightning.

Mowed the lawn this morning “before it got hot”. Completely soaked when done. It was over 100 in Madrid but humidity was really low and did not feel as hot as 80 here this morning.

The dog has been asleep since he got home. Going away to “camp” for 2 weeks wore him out. ‘A dogs life’

With all of this talk about aircraft, I'd better take the opportunity to show the latest batch of photos that I processed today.
They're already bringing back smiles, as I look at them.

Every Air Show should start with an Army Golden Knight bringing down the flag, as the national anthem plays, and everyone stands with respect.

    IMG_6326%20copy-X2.jpg

And as long as the rest of the parachute team are in the circling aircraft, let them come down in dizzying spirals !

    IMG_6346%20copy-X2.jpg

This first act was a wild man. He does some stunts that no other performer even tries, and is a great warm-up act for the things to come.

But when the Air Force sends in a surprise (F15) , that's when the heart starts to race ! Just because the Blue Angels were headlining the acts, doesn't take away from the awesomeness of the USAF ! :patriot:

    EAT DIRT NAVY !!! ;)

    IMG_6389%20copy-X2.jpg

    And what's better than (1) F-15 ? How about TWO F-15's ! :rockwoot:
(the crowd went wild with happiness !)

That's all for today, gangsters. As always, don't forget to click on the pics to enlarge them. Most of my photos are really meant to be viewed at 13" X 23" (about the size of a 22" computer monitor)

    Favorite air frame/platforms.

    Prop…
    P-38 lightning.
    P-51D.
Both were hard to outrun or outgun.
The P-51 has the absolute best lines of any thing with wings I am aware of.

    Jet.
    F-86.
    F-14 Tomcat

The 86 grabbed me up when I 1st read about it as a kid. The swept wings and silhouette along with the guns buried in the nose stole my heart.

The Tomcat was an amazing plane. It was huge and it was fast and it was deadly. The adjustable swept wings and blazing speed. It’s ability to mix it up in a dog fight and pick off 5 inbound threats over 100 miles out. It is still an impressive platform.
For me the F4U Corsair pushes all my buttons.

Followed closely by the A-10 Thunderbolt II ... mostly because we would regularly see them fly over us at Hoosier Hills Rifle and Pistol Club when we were conducting rifle training there ... they were so close you could clearly see the pilot in the cockpit.

I went out for a short woods walk and came back drenched. Hot and humid indeed.
Agreed. I got out during a bit of time I had around noon and was doing some work on some lighting under the bench area on my back deck. The combination of heat and lying flat on my back working was not a good one right after eating lunch. Made for soaking through sweat and not feeling great pretty quick.

    .
Cleaning up the insides and cover plate of another Bacon revolver today, brush just enough phosphoric acid inside that it doesn't drip around and spoil the outside patina. This is sort of a "rinse and repeat" procedure so it takes a few applications. Need to make a hand spring for this one as well.
