That is correct. This is a protest against those school rules - which *can* get students kicked out of school or faculty/staff fired.

I've found out that faculty members on the Bloomington campus, only, can carry firearms. I also had a prof who was able to carry in Indy because he was threatened.

Are you saying you actualy open carry at your Saturday morning class?

no i don't carry to my saturday morning class.

    Reason 1:
There are only 2 classes going on in the hole building.
    Reason 2:
I go in, take my exam (we have one every saturday) and walk out, in the building less than 20 minutes.
    Reason 3:
Chances of something happening on a saturday morning in a building with less than 100 people in it. very small.

I find it interesting that the PUC student handbook says that we cannot carry "without permission of the University."
Maybe I should apply for permission.

Wish I could carry at Purdue, especially walking around campus at 2-3 in the morning. All the recently released prisoners hang out on the guest computers and openly talk about their criminal behavior.

I had a night class with a dude that always bragged with another student about all the criminal stuff he had done and been arrested for. Never trusted the dude. About 5 weeks into classes he quite showing up. Found out he was arrested on a warrant for armed home invasion where he tied up an old couple at gunpoint, his claim was that he used a toy gun...guess what would happen if he pulled his toy gun on me :draw:.

My guess is it would depend on whether you believed it was real, and whether he had "the drop" on you.

Well, unless it was made my Nerf or Super Soaker, I'd probably not take the time to find out if it was real...my personal guess is that it was real and never found, so he used that as a way to try and get some sympathy from the judge/jury.

Here is the story: 5 arrests in 2 similar robbery cases

He is sentenced to 18 years.

I'd love to support this movement and do so in my heart - however, I would be terminated on sight. Other than IU's absurd gun policies, it has been the best job I've had. My livelihood and health insurance depend on it.

You'd be terminated for having an empty holster?

    Wow... that's horrible. Sorry, man.

Maybe we should gather some talking points for people who will be participating. It would look pretty bad if you couldn't support your argument. Also maybe some of the popular reasons for not allowing it.

    Good suggestion.

I'd suggest reading over these items in preparation for the questions you may receive while OC'ing your empty holster that week.

The Protest Lasts a Whole Week!

As a reminder, this silent protest is not a one-day event. This protest is scheduled to last from Monday morning, 5 April 2010, through Friday night, 9 April 2010.
