I understand. Everyone wants to stand out at the range and be the Special Guy. Everyone wants the 7 inch Mosin Nagant rifle and the ball of fire of unburnt powder. "Everyone was looking at me." I get it.

I mean, as many Special Snowflake guns as I have had in and out of my hands, I say more power to them. Afterall, America=choices.
I won't belabor a point, but if that's what you think I'm about, then you most definitely don't get it, and that's ok.

Anybody mention SP5, configured as an sbr, yet?

Ballistics by the inch says 1345fps for 124 gr gold dots out of a 9 inch barrel, SP5 is 8.8 inches

Those are 357 sig velocities, 30 rd mags can be had and 9mm is common and relatively cheap currently

    Probably not.

A PCC is not an alternative to a rifle.

At least it was a better answer to the question than those that suggested an AR as an answer to the question specifically asking for alternatives to ARs.
Agreed. And yeah, I was trying not to call them out, but I had to chuckle at those, and all the "AR-10/other non-5.56 & .223" options.

I don't want to come across as a smart a$$, but my absolute favorite Ruger mini14 is a mini30, but that is just me. I really can't believe they have gotten so expensive and be careful of the older models as they usually can't hit floor with their hat.

One of these days I may get a mini14, who knows, the odds are stacked against it...

I've had a Mini Thirty for a few years now, and I've really enjoyed it. I'm not going to bench shoot it against anything, but I'd say it's "varmint accurate," especially after I upgraded the sights from the folding leaf factory sights to Tech Sights. And yeah, the price increase on Minis in general is pretty ridiculous!

I second this, planning on building this exact set up this year is I can get a SP5 at MSRP. Going to cost even more to get it configured right. Half tempted to leave it as a pistol with a brace but love the "Navy" stock.

My favorite AR-15 alternative. Israeli Galil. It's ok with me if your favorite AR-15 alternative is different than mine, nor are you required to like mine, or believe it is better than an AR-15. It will remain my favorite AR-15 alternative in any case.

I've never had a chance to use a Galil, but they've always looked cool. I remember when I first got into shooting, you could get a Century clone for around $600, and young/dumb me though "there's no way I'm paying that much for a gun."

This is my favorite AR15 alternative. Edit. Well I posted this before I read all the posts. Apparently, according to the "rules" of this thread, the alternative has to be something not even resembling the AR format. I thought the OP was asking for a alternative to the 223/556 AR15. So I will take my "alternative" and go home... :)

So to answer the question, I don't have an alternative. The below item is the only rifle in semi-auto I have other than a couple basic .22 rifles.

Well, it's more a "spirit of the law" thing, but yeah, an AR in .22 is still an AR, at least mostly. That said, I've gotten a ton of mileage out of my CMMG Bravo .22 kit, so no hate.

Hey all, have a general question for you fine folks: what is your favorite AR alternative? I have no hate for ARs, they are great weapons and I've owned a couple over the years, but they've never been my favorite way to throw .223/5.56 lead downrange; for me, that will always be a Ruger Mini 14 (I'm on the hunt for one now). I know in a lot of ways it's objectively not as good as an AR, but man, do I love the way they look and hold. So, I'm curious, what are your favorites, and why do you prefer them over an AR?
I have fallen in love with my CZ BREN 11" barrel handy and a great shooter...I own "several" ARs but the CZ is my favorite
