Raining outside and home alone. Guess I'm not going shooting, washing/waxing my truck, cleaning out my truck, bike ride or anything outside at all. Really glad I got housework caught up yesterday. And all my guns are clean. And I'm losing interest in watching TV more every day.
You had me at bike ride…

Project progress a little this morning. Was able to step out to the garage for an hour or so. Had a couple things in mind after our mountain bike conversations the other day. I’m in.

Needed to put a prettier fork on my main rider and mocking up parts on the bike I believe I’m going to build into my local trail rider… It’s either this or buy a used newer one. I’m torn, I don’t want 26” wheels, which is what this bike is made for, I can however fit 27.5” wheels, can’t get to my ideal 29” that I’d like to have for off road… I’m finding used couple year old 29er’s for around $600 or so, I’ll have a couple hundred at least in making this frame ready for trail use.

I’m on this vintage mountain bike kick still…

My main rider with better chrome fork. 1983 Chestnut Brown Schwinn Sidewinder 10 speed.

The project… Mocked up with a cheap 27.5” wheel on front. 1981 extremely rare in white Schwinn Sidewinder, originally a 5 speed.

If you can adapt the frame, V-brakes are a lot more powerful than calipers and a significant upgrade for off road riding.

If I do it, I will be going disc.

But I’m strongly considering making an offer on a 2012 Specialized Hard Rock 29er for sale locally…

Weighing my options to build this frame with so so parts. Or buying one that’s built for what I wanna do.

I understand wanting to actually build the bike and not buy one.

I’d rather build one, but what I build won’t be able to do what the production bike can. Geometry isn’t as good, parts aren’t as good and I’d have darn near the same amount of money in it vs buying the factory bike…

You have to decide if you want to ride to look good (nothing wrong with that),
or, ride to tame the trails !

:laugh6: I thought I might be pushing the steel frame period build too far with the V-brakes. Discs are great and will even work in the rain. I vote for the hardrock for a better experience on the trails.

I thinking I should probably report this guy for bumping his classified ad too often.

Sometimes modern engineering and materials are worth it.

    One word…suspension.
Back in the day…. 10 years ago… I was full rigid frame and single speed. Loved it and impressed myself… as I’ve gotten older, I appreciate gears… Haven’t totally bought into the suspension thing yet… But…. My body ain’t getting any younger….
