It's mind blowing that the same people ranting and raving about Nazis and fascism in America now, can't see that that's exactly how they're beginning to behave. It's a Rules for Radicals thing, but I think the majority don't even realize how they've been manipulated into that thinking.
They don't mind their own hypocrisy and aren't smart enough to see what's right in front of them. Some day they'll act surprised and regret it once they find out they aren't really part of the majority they thought they were. Most of the leftists will suffer as much or more than conservatives once the wheels come off the wagon and the consequences show up to the party.

...you don’t need 4 paper towels at once to wipe something off...

I have gotten full use out of paper towels since the price went over a dollar a roll. They are often drug back out of the trash can later to reuse for floor spills, dipstick checking and such. If not terribly nasty, after drying out in the trash can, paper towels get run through the shredder to be composted.

Fact check of the fact checkers: :bs:

Didn't know my great grandmother, but my mom sure as heck did! She even washed and saved those thin plastic "baggies" back before there were Ziplocs.
That's because today's fact checkers are pooping green. Most of them haven't been alive long enough to know what a rotary telephone is. My grandparents sure as heck did save foil and grease. Also saved and washed all her bread sacks. I remember as a kid going to my grandparents and seeing the bread sacks hanging by the cabinet doors drying out. They always told me "waste not want not"

I save my plastic grocery bags. Actually I need to take some to recycling, but I generally save them for cleaning up after the dog. One goes over one hand for picking up, and I hold the other one for "depositing". :):

I'm pretty sure we're much further up that pyramid as a society. If some talking heads had their way we'd be at the peak - recall hints of forcibly quarantining the unvaccinated in concentration camps? Credible or not, the fact that such talk is bantered about and folks actually support such an idea proves we're a hair's width from being the 21st century revival of 1940s Nazi Germany. I don't get why people can't see that.

In response to the idiot that said no evidence.
I watched my elders save every thing. Foil/bacon grease you name it. We still have ample bacon grease in the fridge.
We have cut way back on consumable use.
Paper foil etc. took a bit but you don’t need 4 paper towels at once to wipe something off. Same with toilet paper.
I still save bacon grease, but it's to make a proper roux for red beans and rice. I hope we can avoid getting to the more dire circumstances of saving it because it represents calories that might be needed

I would love to go back to the days of quality American built appliances that could last more than 20 years with proper care

We don't make anything and we don't want to fix anything. Put it in the trash landfill and buy another
    one

I'm not sure composting paper towels is a 'GO'...
Plain white is probably OK, brown would be better since it's not bleached.
I wouldn't attempt to compost anything with chemicals or grease on them.

Depends on what you use the compost for.
I don't compost anything that will carry any toxins into my food supply and I don't have separate compost piles for gardens and decorative shrubs/lawn.

No chemicals, glossy/colored paper, no meat eating animal parts/waste or grease...

    ........

Its got nothing to do with 'Shortages', it's just the way our grandparents taught us and I still do it...

At home it's hand towels that get laundered.
    Kitchen towels get laundered.
Its just not that hard to carry a soiled towel to the cloths washer...

Now being a different from the (non-disposable) everything bunch,
    HANDS ACTUALLY GET WASHED.

Wiping grease/dirt on towels was considered an insult to parents/grandparents that did laundry,
And when we were old enough to get laundry as a chore, reusing towels reduced the volume of laundry.

On the road the paper towels dry CLEAN hands, so they get taken along.
Used for napkins, blowing noses, cleaning things, wiping dip sticks/sight gauges, etc.

    Things got washed...
Everything including tin cans got reused...

In about 1975 we laid a driveway to a new hay barn, cut away sod and laid the smashed cans (and other tin type trash) that had been saved.
That driveway still haven't fell through, rock didn't sink...
The one time we had to dig into that drive way the cans had rusted/hardened into a rust iron plate...

We used actual dishes, glass jars, etc and washed them.
I have dishes & canning jars that belonged to my grandparents, and they still work just fine...

I'm old enough to remember when family members had wash cloths on hooks in the out houses, and a bucket of (bleach) wash water was there to wash them out.
Toilet paper (or some kind of paper) was there for visitors.

No one now knows about every outhouse had a bag of lime in one corner, and a covered bucket of bleach water in the other, rags on nails or hooks, or a bucket of wiping material usually up on the seat next to you...
Rags got laundered when the family did laundry.

After being mostly deployed for 16 years in the Marines, I installed a bidet toilet which solved much of the problems with toilet paper in septic tank since you have to hunt for septic safe toilet paper around here.

A bidet wasn't 'Foreign' to me after being somewhere other than the USA, and it's quite efficient.
And you also come away cleaner when it really counts...

    ........

I'm not exactly sure where common sense went, but I hope it's not gone forever.

There was life before the 'Consumer Economy' and everything being 'Disposable' without any thought to where it comes from, how much work goes into it, or where it goes when you are through with the single use or entertainment period...

    ........

    On the UP SIDE,
China is not building new battery or computer chip plants unless they are compensated with tax free status, guaranteed automatic cost increase contracts...

That's already lead to plans for a new battery technology plant in Mexico.
    (North American Manufacture, remember NAFTA?).

There is also a tentative agreement for new technology solar panel manufacture in Canada.

A Danish company is looking into building a wind generator plant on the US/Canadian border.

Since the only rare earth magnet manufacturer in the US (from Indiana) was bought out and moved to China there is no such company in the USA,
    BUT,
The Canadian subsidiary of a US based company is breaking ground in Canada for a rare earth magnet manufacturer.

Now this is a military contractor, so I don't have any hopes it will relieve much of the shortages in the civilian market at a reasonable price, but who knows?...

If for no other reason than national defense, I'd like to see these key technologies come back to North America.

Some of us remember Mike Pense saying that anyone gay should be hung in his 'Christan' radio/web cast rants before becoming vice president,
And the sitting president at the time NOT denouncing violence,
Not denouncing racial violence or speech,
And in fact tweeting conspiracy theories & lies...

Mike Pense also saying anyone that had anything to do with abortions should be locked up (without a trial) until they 'Repented to God' and were 'Reeducated'.

(Didn't say which one of the 3,000 or so currently active 'Gods' in various religions, but we can guess...)

With the 24%-30% of the 'Far Christian Right' trying to dictate to the 76%-70% of the rest of us what we...

    1. Can or can't do in the bedroom,
    2. What goes on between doctors & patients,
    3. What we can read or watch,
    4. Dictating a specific religion we have to be,
    5. What political party or dogma we must observe/support,

Well, the list goes on but that pretty much covers all the important parts of the Constitution and human rights arguments...

YOU 'Believe' what you want to...
    You have that constitutional protection.

Even when it gets into playing the victim and lashing out.
When that constitutional protection stops is when it infringes on the next person's constitutional protections...

    AND...
Just because someone else finally gets constitutional protection doesn't mean YOU (or the demographic you belong to) loses anything.
Its a democracy, that means it will be impossible for anyone to get everything exactly how they want it, everyone will disagree with something...
And every one of those people has the same right to sound off like you have.

    You lost nothing...

Now, if you want to talk about manners, respect for other people in this same society,
And getting along with the neighbors even if you don't agree with them, we can do that also.

I don't disagree. Pence was an embarrassment to our state and our nation and I have my own theory how he even ended up on the Trump ticket. But this actually illustrates that this trend towards fascism is not exclusive to one party over another, but rather both parties are simply two sides of the same coin, intend on ruling with a vision of securing their ideology that only succeeds if they silence and eliminate the opposition. Criticism of one side is not tacit approval of the other.

I thought a democracy's flaw was that the majority got everything they wanted. While in a representative republic the minority still carried weight. Meaning, democracy votes, 60-40. The 60% get everything they want and the 40% get nothing. Same vote in rep. republic, the 60 get most of what they want, but the 40 still have weight/say.
    Pence was a weak leader.
