...if I wasn't so frugal I wouldn't go at all.

I got a mouthy checkout lady, after moving from line to line a couple of times for a slow mover and another line closing as I was laying items on the belt. :n00b:

I handed the lady my rain check for the on sale pork shoulder that they didn't have a few weeks before. As she stared at the rain check, she said she was looking for an amount that it was limited to. I explained that there was not a listed limit when they had the original pork shoulder sale and that I was buying the same amount as I would have bought then.

The checkout lady then told me that "you wouldn't be pulling this in my kroger store." :ugh: I had to bite my tongue to not be smart-assed with her, but did ask which kroger was her store, so I'd know not to go there. She explained she was from the really new fancy nice one in Greenwood.

I also passed along my concern of kroger often running completely out of on sale items. She was very quick with the STFU excuses of covid and college town. By this time I was a bit perturbed and didn't let her go on that either, saying "Yes maam, these are good excuses, but they are just that. This has always been a college town and we are going on two years with the 'rona."

To give the lady her due, she was not rude or mean. She was just talky, talky beyond her position, as a cashier. We parted ways, both expressing thank you's.

I hate going to Kroger. Maybe I'll venture up to Martinsville in a month or two when I need meat or dairy? The staff seemed more customer oriented up there the last time, but the store is pretty cramped. Gas is much cheaper there too. :dunno:

I usually shop Milan Jay C. It's small town about everyone knows each other or knows of each other. Very friendly and yes out of sale items quite often. Their problem is getting enough of any sale items in the first place. It's a small store and Kroger owned also. They are at the mercy of the corporate office as to who gets what sale items. They do their best. I was told to get there Thursday mornings to get sale items while in stock, if the truck actually brings the items that is.

Again I'm glad I live in the country and shop small town businesses and know the people I'm dealing with.

I only do self check out lanes or lanes ran by little Hispanic ladies if at all possible.

So far, this plan has produced zero drama.
Wish I could find the little Hispanic ladies. The ladies at the check-out counter in some krogers are often not ladies.

Self-checkouts are problematic for me. Reading glasses on/off, on/off, on/off hunting for barcodes and reading screens presents a coordination problem on top of a security issue.

I doubt the self-checkout would be a way to go with a rain check anyway?

    Can't argue with that.

Most of the cashiers at my local Kroger can be a bit talky, but they are friendly and I can be a bit as well. They have also put limits on rainchecks for years. Used to be they would ask and put down whatever you said, since covid they have been limiting it to iirc 10 generally and 5-6 from the meat dept. But you can get multiple rainchecks...
    As is Payless...
    And about a dozen more.

It can be done, same as with coupons. The cashier will have to do it, although for meat my local store has a policy of only doing it when the meat dept staff is there. You give the raincheck to the butcher and they relabel the packages back there.

CKW knows several cashiers at our local Kroger’s and always chats them up.
mijers and Wally she hits the self check fly’s through and out the door. The convenience outweighs the options as to other reasons not to use them.

Went into Meijer's around "nothing o' clock" in the morning to do my grocery shopping (pre covid). I had a loaded cart and headed for the cashier's lanes. When I got there, no lanes were open, so I asked an employee who was just standing around if they were open.
She replied yes, just self check out until 6am. I told her I didn't work there and had zero interest in pursing a career in the grocery business.
After we exchanged a few passive-agressive, smart ass remarks back and forth, I asked her if she'd rather ring this stuff up or put it all back....................she chose the former.
The service industry has gone to *****-all, I'd be unemployed in minutes if I spoke to a customer in that manner, let alone, asked them to do my job while I stood and watched.

About the same for the wife and I. I'll hit a manned checkout at wally world if I have a bunch of things though. A handy tip at walmart(and some others) is if there is someone in the auto/sporting goods/electronics/paint/outdoor and I believe pharmacy is that they can check you out as well. So they may have 5 people waiting with full carts in the 2 open checkouts, there's a good chance you can find someone in one of the other sections with no waiting.

I hate going to the Kroger next to me as well (and yes I know it's a first world issue, but I'm still gonna *itch).

Any time I find something I like, within a month or so they no longer carry it. The stuff I need every week is out of stock more often than not. The parking lot for my store absolutely sucks and the last week they've been blacktopping parts, all without putting up signs to let anyone know, so I have to go around to the other entrance, which is blocked which leads to issues. There are never enough cashiers available and half the time they only have one section of their self checkout lines open instead of both. BTW I don't understand you people who gripe about using those, do you gripe about having to pump your own gas and ask for a discount when you do? Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised when I went to the local Meijer instead. Not only did they have a ton of self checkout lanes, but they also had a lot of actual cashiers available, so many that when I saw the self checkout lanes were backed up with a long line, I saw that at least 3 cashiers were near me and open. Was done very quickly. I think I'm going to have to drive the longer distance to Meijer more often and skip Kroger, which sucks cause I literally live 3 minutes from Kroger and 15 minutes down heavily trafficked roads to go to Meijer.

Since I'm a day shifter now, I get to listen to Bob & Tom again. They have been running a little song called "Chatty Clerk" the last few days. Not sure if it's online, but pretty funny and relevant to your experience.

I get out much quicker which is saving me time. Enjoy waiting in line. I'll be out with my family
That’s CKW’s take on the issue.
convenience and I have to admit I see it.
our mini protests do not good any way. None. Just like pumping fuel. It’s gonna be the way of things peoples. It just is.
