I joined a thing called Nextdoor so I could ask people for restaurant recommendations since we had moved to a new area.

It really is quite funny, and scary at the same time, to see the things people endlessly complain about. There is a rather sizable portion of the population utterly obsessed with everything their neighbors do.

I joined Nextdoor too, but haven't been on it for at least 2 years now. When it first started it was pretty decent, both for the reasons you mention, but also it was more like a neighborhood watch program. It gradually morphed into a neighborhood "Gladys Kravitz" program, and then politics started creeping in too, so I bailed.

I'm connected to the Nextdoor in my area and found out very quickly it's managed by Karens. Any conservative or firearms friendly speech is deleted post haste. -1 for Nextdoor

I'm guessing there is a group like this in my area, but do not know as I do not do zuckbook.

I can only imagine what some of the "progressive folks" around me might whine about...LOL

zuckbook: There is a man that walks around the neighborhood with a GUN. Sometimes he not only carries a GUN, but smokes a cigar....right in front of children!

BigRed: I walked around the neighborhood looking for him, but did not find him.
That sounds like someone else I know.

    I reluctantly joined nextdoor.

The very first post I read was someone complaining about kids playing loudly.

Then I saw a post where they were arguing about the color of a suspicious van.

Not for me so I left.

I did have one good thing come from joining Nextdoor. Found a guy that works on lawnmowers, is more than reasonable with what he charges, and he comes to your house to work on them. He did some work on both my rider and my walk behind. And he's a conservative. He's a firefighter with IFD.

Not DNR, but I once got a 911 call for a hit and run fatality that turned out to be geese.
A Karen, but not the typical Karen, more like a trashy Karen, screamed at me and told me I needed to do the right thing and call the police because i accidentally hit a dog that ran in front of my jeep, and find the owner and apologize. The dog ran off, I was already visibly upset, and this idiot will.not.shut.up. She acted as if I had hit the dog on purpose and had committed a crime. It was right in front of a restaurant, so of course there was an audience. Thanks Karen, for making a bad situation even worse!

I joined specifically to watch the antics of self-important control freaks. Not living where there is an HOA (which I suggest), I could just watch the idiocy with detached amusement. I also follow "Best of Nextdoor" on Twitter for the same reason, but the locals are more entertaining.

I don't work for DNR but I know some who do and have heard some stories. I remember a story about a woman that called to complain about new road construction in a west central Indiana county because she thought the construction would make the, in her opinion severely endangered, coyote extinct.

Another one I heard about was a woman who complained about the use of GMO seeds in ag fields. She was convinced that deer and raccoons would not eat GMO corn and soybeans and was concerned that the wildlife would starve.

I recall several years ago reading that residents of another subdivision in my community had called the DNR to report that coyotes were killing geese around their pond. At the time, I remember thinking more power to the coyotes. Nature can be cruel but, it is what it is. The average suburban citizen has no clue, my dear wife included.

Shad kills in the spring on the lake where I used to live were bad, but it was amazing how fast various animals cleaned up what must have been a buffet.

I was once working at a ladies house who was telling a story about how she had to call the DNR over people's exotic pets getting loose. It was a coyote that got into a gas station and she was convinced it was someone's exotic pet that had gotten loose.
    :lmfao:
We call them bubblers, they live in a bubble and know nothing outside of their own little world.
