Female friend wanted a GUN, so she went to SPB Greenwood yesterday, walked in and was sold a SPNGFLD compact 9mm (last one they had salesman said for only $580 OTD), no ammo, NIB, got home and called me, she cant rack the slide, doesn't know how to load the mags. But she thought she needed it, as she lives alone.

A friend here at work was talking about his wife now wanting one. He tried getting her interested years ago but she wanted nothing to do with them. Now that she wants one, he told her she could have one of his in a month if she took it seriously and went with him to learn and practice.
IMO, a month isn’t enough but it’s better than Steelcore’s female friend situation. I still worry about my wife in a bad situation. We’ve worked together quite a bit and done several classes over the last 5-7 years but she still doesn’t look comfortable with itwhen we are at the range.

Several sources locally and nationally are estimating 80% of current buying panic are new gun owners. Many say that they had a family meeting and decided to purchase a gun for protection.

    We can only hope so.
If correct, I'd guess that would be good news for Trump and the Republicans.
I can't imagine a new gun owner voting for someone yelling, "Hell YES I,m going to take away your guns".

We must remind them regularly of this.

Seems like all the shops are out of everything but I was in Parabellum today and they were swimming in handguns.. Had a Glock 48, Sig 365, numerous S&W & Ruger. At least 30 or 40, looked about like it did a month ago.. Range is closed but the store is open and I'm not sure what they have in ammo but seemed to have plenty of handguns. Obviously not going to last long in this market but if you have to have something it would be a good place to look.

Local shop is still well stocked. May not have that specific model a person wants but plenty of handguns to go around. Now is not the time for enthusiasts to buy, but rather the general consumer. Other then 9mm, .223 and defensive ammo everything else has been pretty stable. I personally don’t expect dramatic increases in firearms prices, the wholesale system was pretty full. I also don’t think this is a sellers market.

We (2A supporters in general) are pretty much the very crowd that's argued for no-restriction gun buying ability and against any sort of mandated training or education.
So, while it may be an interesting time to comment on first-time owners' displaying less-than admirable or stellar behaviors -- in buying patterns, buying decisions, gun handling -- can we truly be surprised by what we're seeing?

I gotta think it's mostly new buyers. I mean, how many gun people are buying MORE guns during this time? I'd think those of use with more than a couple are instead thinking more about ammo and spare parts. And since so man of the sales are *handguns* that really seems to point to inexperience. Gun people know that you should instead be buying long guns if you are worried about TEOTWAWKI.

No surprise here. I just hope these new buyers keep their guns and take the tome to learn basic safety. The more people who own guns, the more that won’t want to just give them up.

I don’t think the fear is end of days. I think people are worried about looting, lack of police protection and their immediate families well being. Handguns have become socially acceptable as a legitimate self defense tool.

I'm holding off new gun purchases, for sure.
Was debating among a few things and about to make a decision between a .22LR race pistol, one those fancy-ish 10/22 variants from TC, and a second Ruger LCP (mine's got some rounds through it, might be time to get it a brother).
But, right now with gun prices headed up and the economy not so much, I'm thinking discretionary purchases can wait.

As with everyone that already own guns, I would hope that these new gun owners act responsibly.

    First observe the 4 Rules.
Learn what you own and how to handle it.
    Get a good holster.
    Take a basic course.
    Learn your State laws.
    Practice.
    Take a more advanced course.
    Practice.
    Practice.
    Practice.

We should never get on the mandatory training band wagon.

ETA the first five on this list are all first.

A guy looking as if he is a Bernie Sanders supporter is buying an AR15. As he hands my buddy his credit card I hear, "Does this have a lot of kick"?

Gave my buddy a nod and walked out.

I would encourage all of us, when we run into these new gun owners, at the range, at work, at a party, etc. be kind. Help them, answer questions, offer to take them shooting. Bring them into the club. it will pay off for all of us.
