In all honesty, how many of you think you're going to have time to put on/in ear & eye protection after being awaken in the middle of the night?

Seconds lost doing that could result in all advantages you have lost, and the intruder gaining the upper hand.

I'm not wasting time and losing a tactical advantage that could result in the loss of my life.

Next to my bed at night is my 2 year old Pitbull mix, Ginger.
Oh, yeah, I also have my CCW, a CZ 2075 Rami, in case Ginger is not up to the task.
I have 5 year old 180lb bullmastiff that sleeps in my bedroom. I also have a Rami and a PCR on the nite stand.

I put a Glock 21 with a TLR-1 on the nightstand next to whatever I carried that day. Next to the nightstand is a 8.5” 300BO AR that’s suppressed. There’s a Mossberg 500 nearby as well.

The EDC gun on the nightstand is for when the pup needs to go out. The days clothes and holster are right there, so I slip the EDC into the holster to take him out. The G21 is for those ‘Need a gun RFN’ times. The AR is for when you hear crap but don’t know what it was, like when the garage door spring broke in the middle of the night and I had no idea what it was but needed to go see.

That’s why I went with the suppressed 300BO AR pistol. If I don’t have time to hit the Eotech button, I can aim for the hot spot on the pressure switched light and be quite accurate at 3 yards. If it’s an absolute immediate problem that needs attention, I’ll deal with whatever hearing issues shooting the Glock 21 indoors brings.

My neighbors refer to my home as the Airport due to the amount of lighting I have, especially the two 8000 lumen 8x12 LED flood lights, one for my flagpole that lights up the entire front of my yard and house, and the same in the back lighting up from the house to my treeline 45 feet from my fence, along with three additional (2 cfl and one led) traditional looking floods for the sides of the house.
You can't step within 100 FEET of my lot at night and not be seen unless your sporting the newest S.H.I.E.L.D. cloaking technology. LOL The big LED's are great, low wattage/amperage, with built in daylight sensora for auto shutoff at dawn. ...

Sounds like a great setup. Care to share any brands/models you used for your 'approach'?

We run an 8 camera outfit and my daughter (next door) has 8 cameras as well. Every corner is covered.
Not very expensive to get set up. My major expense outside the initial kit was a 40" flat screen that site next to the TV in the family room for 24/7 monitoring and the extended cables to place the cameras where we wanted them plus the long HDMI cords. The bedroom TV is also on that system when desired. I set it on the system at night. Grab the remote and I have a birds eye view. Pick up the cell and I can see the daughters system.

Where did you buy the 8-camera surveillance system? Is it one with a DVR or just real-time video to your flat screen?

Link below, I took a couple of pics that's in the reviews, the double bulb pic in the reviews is not the light. My pics should be the first two images showing.
One of my Flagpole taken before dusk and the other is my back yard just after dusk and before I had the angle readjusted to shine correctly.

Outstanding amount of light output for only 60 watts, and the dusk to dawn sensor is an added bonus.

I would think it's still situationally dependant for the people who listed electronic hearing protection. If the intruder just smashed their bedroom window open 3 feet from where they're sleeping, no ears and eyes.

If it's the famed mysterious bump in the night from downstairs or down the hall, I figure that's when it'd go on.
