Its all a bunch of s**t! Our gas prices should not go up. The US is the number 1 exporter of oil in the world.
Keep it here, screw exporting it, and keep our prices low

Oil is a world market commodity.

Even if we don't ship ours overseas the price still goes up due to world demand. And while we export oil we also import oil too. We also export 'finished product' after it has been refined here, and most of that is not gasoline. There are many different issues, oil shale is only a small issue.

Further, if the government decides to "keep it here" then the government is interfering with capitalism in a very socialistic way. We really don't want that!!!

I dont really se how its socialistic. Take the government control out of the equation. Oil drillers drill the crude. They then sell it to the refineries who then sell it to parts stores, gas stations, etc. Just keep it within our borders is all.

By the way oil is now up over $8 per barrel

Attack on the Saudi oil fields. 5% of the worlds production is currently burning. Iran has been blamed, but claims to be NOT responsible. Possible Houti rebels? In any case, look for $100/barrel prices in the short term.

I'm waiting to see that it wasn't Iran, or the Houthis but the House of Saud itself. "Fired" one minister, and the new one decided that he didn't want to follow in his predecessor's path...

"I know, let's cause some disruption in the supply. Panic the world and surely the price per barrel will jump overnight!"

Well the government would be the one to mandate that. The world market will take the oil.

I love this time of year for College football and NHL. Only bad thing that comes with CFB and NHL is the impending cold thats gonna settle in for the next 6 months.

You apparently did not read the article I posted. Our refineries are not setup for that crude. We export it to places that are, and import the crude that the refineries are setup for.

I read it. Why not set the refineries up to process that crude? According to the article they were at one time. Zero reason it couldn't be done again. That end of it comes down to greed in my opinion. They can get this type of oil cheaper and sell at a higher profit margin is basically what i get from the article.
Im not saying every ounce of crude that we produce needs to stay within the borders. My thought is why do we have to be reliant on the global market. It is not necessary. Build the plants to refine the oil. Make the adjustments needed.
We need to quit being reliant on foriegn materials, no matter what they may be.
