My previous EDC was a 3" SP101 with the old nasty 125gr Federals, but I got tired of the weight to be honest. Good woods and hiking gun when I don't care about concealing as much, but it started annoying me trying to conceal it wearing anything other that jeans and a thick Bullhide belt. I found a 3" Ruger LCR-X and fell in love with it. Adjustable sights, lightweight and still a Ruger. Don't get me wrong, I love shooting my dad's model 19 and my 6" L frame Smiths, but you cannot hardly break a Ruger... I feel comfortable with 5 rounds of Buffalo Bore +P, they come out almost at .357 magnum velocity and I cut the center out of the target. Cylinder full of those and a couple of speed strips and I feel comfortable. If I was going into a Louisville feral riot situation, I would be carrying a carbine and G17 with a lot of magazines... but for EDC, I like my little wheel gun.

Lovemachine, quit tapping into my thoughts! This was something I was considering posting on earlier today. Whenever I think of people carrying their 5 shot snubbies, this subject comes to mind. If I was King of the world, I would do something like say you had to be able to pass the FAM qualifier or something similar with whatever gun you choose to carry.

I mainly draw the line a caliber. Nothing smaller than 9mm or .38 spl +p.

As for capacity, I'm a little more flexible. Glock 19 and at least one spare mag on the weekends or when I'm going somewhere with the family.

Usually it's a j-frame during the week because I can fit it in a pocket when I can't realistically conceal the Glock in business casual dress while at work (office job).

Nothing smaller than a 9mm. No fewer rounds than 15 be it in a double stack pistol (I usually have a 2nd mag near or on me) or a single stack 9 mm with extra mag.

Carry what you feel comfortable with. IMO, it's not "if you were going to get into a gunfight today", because some goof will ALWAYS just say, "Oh, well I'd just stay home" or some similar nonsense.

If you were involved in a gunfight right NOW, in the middle of reading this sentence, what gun would you have in your hand at THIS moment?

Is that the (a) gun you're comfortable defending your life with, or the lives of your loved ones, right NOW? If so, you're GTG. If not, ya might want to re-think it. Up to you, it's your life.

The whole, 'Well, the chances of me being involved in a gunfight today are pretty low, so..." :blahblah: Really?

If we're going to play those silly 'what're the odds?' games, then perhaps the 'figurin' folks' should 'figure in' this: 'Bad things' happen to every human at some point in their life. 'Statistically', multiple times. Therefore, each day that passes that 'nothing' happens increases the probability (however miniscule) that the 'bad thing' will happen the next day (week, month).

Imagine what almost 3,000 innocent people were thinking on the morning of September 11th, 2001 as they headed to work. In fact, what happened that morning was SO unfathomable that I'll bet NOT ONE of them thought, "What're the chances of me getting killed by a jetliner flying into my office in the World Trade Center?" Not one.

See, it's not the 'statisical probabilities' that'll get ya. It's the 'impossible'; that errant, oddball 'one in a million'.

Now... guess how I know that?

Since we disagree a lot, I have to jump in when that is not the case and say, good post.

Well since I am reading this at work I would be hosed in a gun fight. I am drinking a beverage right now though. So I suppose I could throw the can at someone.

Otherwise I tend to carry a larger gun. Sometimes a 5 shot snub but even that is a heck of lot better then most of the true pocket autos running around out there.

I stopped at the G19/26 combo. I've had one of almost every quality combat pistol offered up until 2007, I divested myself of most all of them in favor of the 19. In the last year and a half, I've taken up the 26 for those days when I can't carry a real gun. Same manual of arms, same magazines, and I actually shoot the 26's better than the 19's? If I can conceal a 19/26 biz casual, anyone can.

When I sold guns I sold a LOT of the small carry guns (LCP, LC380/9, Shield and Bodyguard). Usually these were women looking for a purse gun OR people who were 100% sure they were never going to OC their gun (only cowboys do that anyways, right?). Size trumped everything else for almost every one of those people. A gun they could partially or totally hide was exactly what they wanted. They accepted a limited round capacity in exchange for concealability.

I usually have only 1 gun with me when I'm going to work because I work 1.5 miles from home and can't carry at work. So a pocket sized gun (LCP in my case) that fits in my purse/glove box is good enough. But when I have a day off I feel a lot more comfortable carrying my xdM 9 with 13 rounds ready. I didn't have the gun when it was warm last year so I don't know how exactly I'll react to OCing it when I don't have a jacket mostly covering it.

I have gotten myself in trouble replying to this type of thread several times. Even banned for a month. Because you cant post anything contrary to the mainstream INGO members opinions without getting blasted(no pun intended). I will just say that the replies I have seen on this thread are typical.

I draw the line at caliber. I don't want to carry anything less than 380. So, I'm looking to carry 7 rounds of 380 when needed this summer.

If you can give us your opinion without calling anyone stupid, insulting their faith, or breaking general rules of decorum, I'm pretty sure you won't get banned for your choice of carry piece. Heck, you can tell me you think it's dumb to carry in the first place if you want.

If I had to get into a defensive mode right now it would be a 1911 with 8 rd. mag and a spare right next to it. Tomorrow, same platform. Driving/walking/sitting/nite stand......yup, same thing.
Fits my hand, points up no thought involved.

Went from normally carrying a jframe snub to a glock 30.... Double stack compact.
I doubled my capacity with no real difference in carry comfort.

I hear ya. 11 rounds of 22 LR to the face can take care of any threat.

Typical of what? People that don't think your previous 11 rounds of .22, or your now .25acp are serious defensive pistol choices? Typical of people that call ignorance out when it's stated? Or...?

I don't go smaller than 9mm. Usually one, occasionally 2 extra mags. G26 usually, G19 sometimes. GP100 when its been a while and I forget how heavy it is, same with the G21. Hopefully I won't need them for the reason I carry them, but this ain't 1948.
