I never warmed to the 92FS. I ended up giving it to my brother, in fact. So for me, it would certainly be a 1911. But what are you planning on using the handguns for? Purpose might lend itself better to one over the other, although they are both fine general purpose pistols.

You can get a nice Springfield 1911 for under a grand. I picked up the loaded version in stainless steel for $900 this summer. It is a smooth gun with good fit and finish

What's the purpose of the new purchase? That may allow us to provide a better informed opinion. What else do you already own, etc.

Since you are going to end up with both eventually, buy whichever one you can get the best deal on now.

Or whichever one you have more ammo for now.

I'd skip the Beretta and go for a sig P226/9. You can swap the upper of the sig and go .22LR, 9mm, .40 and 357 sig. Awesome gun.

The .22LR upper is what I shoot most of the day at the range. Then I finish up with a few hundred rounds of 9mm. The sig is one of the last handguns I bought and by far my favorite.

I have a Ruger SR9c right now. This is why I am leaning toward the Beretta as my next purchase. I have plenty of 9mm on hand already.

Go with a 9mm 1911. Problem solved. I would highly recommend the SW1911 Pro Series in 1911. Might set you back a little more then $1000 but worth it. The large external extractor really helps the gun run right.

Another option would be a nice Browning HiPower. Single action like a 1911, 9mm, feels great in the hand, classic looks like a 1911 or 92fs. Plus the safety and grip angle will be similar to the SR9c. Yeah HiPower and SR9c that is the ticket.

Beretta makes a similar kit but it's hard to come by. Personally, I bought a 92A1 which is a variant of the 92fs and absolutely love it. Of course, right after I got it ammo got scarce so it's been collecting dust as of late but hopefully soon I can get back to the range.

I'm guessing you want these guns just to have them due to the connection to the military. That's all good.
If that's the case, get the 1911 first.
Either way, you won't be complete until you have both. You will have an empty hole in your soul.
