My week at Disney... Pic added

I really had low expectations for this week as I'm not a people person at all and I get annoyed extremely easy. I figured it would be lines galore, the park stripping your pockets, etc. I was pleasantly surprised and all 3 of us had a ball.

I figured the parks would really rest on their laurels and just siphon money from the people but it is amazing at the billions they spend keeping these parks looking nice. I went on the Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios today and it is nothing more than a glorified frog hopper like they have at Indiana beach but it is 1000 times cooler than that because of all the scenery and detail they put into building these rides.

China has saved these places as stuff in the gift shops weren't as outrageously priced as I thought they would be. Domestic beers were $5.50 in the parks which is better than pro sporting events.

I can't believe the efficiency in which they move people in the rides and the traffic going in and out of these places. Most of the rids run on conveyors and run not stop so as not to stop and unload and reload every time the ride is over. We left Fantasmic and there were thousands of people leaving and heading out to the parking lot at the same time. We were out of the parking lot in no time and on our way. I figured we'd be stuck in traffic forever. Why can't the douche bags who design pro sports arenas consult the Disney people on how to build parking lots to maximize traffic flow? Of course, Disney had enough sense not to build his parks in the middle of downtown major cities.

I was amazed at how courteous 99.9% of employees were at the parks. I only ran across 2 or 3 that were remotely rude. You can tell these people like their jobs. You'd think that they'd be low paying jobs but other than what appeared to be some college interns, most of the employees were all 30+ year old adults. Even the ride attendants and the janitors so apparently it is a decent career here.

Another nice thing is that this costs enough that I never really saw the types that you would see at the local county fair. Yes, it is very expensive but I think the entertainment and atmosphere are definitely worth it. They charge a lot but they are definitely putting a lot back into it.

I hope to make it back here soon with just the wife and I because we had such a good time.

I just got back as well but a week before. I agree I was very surprised out how well it all went. I went with my ife my daughter and my mother in-law. My daughter is 6 and loved it. I reccomend it for anyone with kids and the trip for just you and the wife is a good idea I here epcot would be great for that but that would be expensive but maybe worth it.

So the million dollar question did you carry in the park? I flew down and didn't take it with me because I was not going to be in control of my checked bag all the time but I might have since I don't ride rides but it would have been a small bug.

We love Disney.... EXCEPT for part where we buy the tickets. Then I try to QUICKLY forget that part.

And since it's only like $2 more per day after you buy a couple of days, it really pays to just keep adding days. In case of rain, or such, you have extra days to get stuff in.

When we last went, in August, I had NEVER seen it to crowded. But yet we still had sweating, drenched fun.

Ticket prices really aren't that bad considering. We got 7 day tickets and they came to $30 something a day. It's $30 a day for Indiana Beach. Longest we waited on anything was about 45 minutes. This place is 100 times better than Cedar Point.

The other really great thing is all the adults are having just as much fun as the kids. I'm walking around with a Micky beanie on with Daddy embroidered on the back. I rode the flying carpets, dumbos, kiddie coasters etc along with the rest of the adults.

    Good! :D

Glad you are having fun with the family! Enjoy the sun. If you guys want some really cool things to do that isn't Disney related(but semi close to it), let me know. Just moved back from the area. There are natural springs out there to die for!

I agree with all of the above. We adults should all strive harder to provide quality time to spend with family, young and old alike.

It was refreshing to read your positive thoughts.
So much negitive in the world today. Thanks

WDW has perfected the art of moving massive amounts of people with a minimum of fuss. They've really gotten it down and like true professionals, you never see all the stuff underneath that goes on to make that happen.

If I had to pick one thing, though, I'd say the speedpass lines. All parks should do that. It's ridiculous that I should spend two or more hours (per ride) waiting in line. If you know you have two-hour waits, what's wrong with micro-reservations? Let it be implied that I'm waiting in line. Mickey Mouse can stand in line in my place while I go do fun stuff. Everyone's happy then.

Can we get one of those for Wal-Mart too?!?! :n00b:

I try to take my family to WDW every other year, we absolutely love it down there (and I think my kids like it so much cause dad turns into the biggest kid of all). We usually stay at Fort Wilderness Campground (there is so much to do at the campground you could spend a two week vacation and never leave it and have a great time).

If you think your "roughing it" by staying at the campground you're going to be sorry. When you stay in their "cabins" maids come in every morning and clean it for you and if you take your own camper/tent they come around every morning and blow off the leaves, twigs, etc of your campsite. Every night for free they show a full length movie (on some nights they are very recent movies) at their out door theater. They also have a dinner theater show (Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue) that you have to make reservations for, but it is well worth it. It is a great time.

As far as the lines go, try to figure out what popular rides you want to ride then first thing in the morning when you get in the park get the fast pass for that ride. The fast pass will give you what hour to go back to the ride (say it shows 4pm - 5pm) show up at that time and you get to go in the fast pass line which is usually no loner than 15 to 20 minutes, while the stand by line for the same ride might be 1 hour or longer. Its free for every body to do, but the trick is you can't hold more than 1 (sometimes 2) fast passes at a time (meaning you can't hold a fast pass for the Tower of Terror and Rockin Roller Coaster at the same time).

Damn this is our off year and now you got me all excited thinking about it. :xmad:

Today, we rode a wave runner all the way around Key West and got to play on them a little. 40-50mph on wave runner on the atlantic will beat you up pretty good. My wife, daughter and I were all on the same one. After that, we took a biplane ride tour of Key West and then went to Duval Street and watched some of the shows and sunset at Malory Square. Tomorrow, we get up and go to the Dry Tortugas.
