Stop and post if I miss any.

Wesforth in Gary is great, I live like <1mi away, I usually go through them for everything I need.

Blythe's in Griffith is great too. Sometimes I go to them for my needs, but seems overpriced at times.

Cabela's in Hammond is huge, and I mean huge. You have to deal with Corporate America there, but its got everything you need, almost like Sam's Club for weapons.

Dick's (Merrillville/Hobart) is good, but its lacking the customer service and pistol gear you would need. Mostly Rifles and junk.

There is another by Dick's, right by the mall, I can't remember the name, but its small, and you have to check in your firearm at the counter. Its really small, and way overpriced from what the other shop owner said as he was scoping out the business.

Bump... Why doesn't anyone respond? I know there are more out there in NW Indiana.
What is there to respond to?

You listed the stores in Lake County. Isn't that what this thread is about?

However I do think you missed at least one. Deb's in Hammond. Small shop on Kennedy Avenue in the Hessville neighborhood. It has an indoor range in the basement. I've not been there is more than a dozen years so I have no clue how its stocked.

    BTW where is Wesforth?

Its been probably 8 years since I've been in Westforth's, but unless things have changed, its not worth the effort necessary to get out of your car and walk inside. For example, if your daily travel required you to go directly past Westforth's, and you had all the time in the world, it probably still wouldn't be worth your while. I am completely open to the idea that they have changed. The last time I was in there, the selection was bad, the prices were worse, and the "service" was worse still. It is no coincidence that I haven't been back. YMMV.

Westforth's has been completely remodeled from the ground up recently. They have a larger selection and in my opinion have top notch customer service. My first time in there which was a couple months ago their sales associates greeted me with a friendly "hello" and helped me pick out a holster for a gun I had just purchased elsewhere. I will return in the future when the construction is done to check it out finished.

Well, I suppose I should give them another chance. The old shop wasn't very large, so I am not altogether surprised that they had to add more space.

Westforth's is on my weekly gunshop run in N.W. Indiana along with all the aforementioned except Gander. Gander is in the mall and traffic there is too much. Westforth's did a complete remodel over the last three or four months. There are knowledgeable people there, and I think used guns are priced no worse than everone else. Deb's is a good place, small with friendly people and prices are good on the very small inventory. I have spent a bunch of money at Blythes Griffith over the years. I try not to get attached to anything there as pricing is high. If you look at the inventory and # of personel there you understand their overhead is high, translating into higher prices.

It was just a list of shops I been to in the NWI region. I wanted to know if I missed any, and what other people thought about them. Either way, NWI is lacking on this site.

Westforth is the best place I go to. I can walk there that's how close I live to that shop. They are the best ones so far I have been to. Not for the convienience, but for the service. The labor rates, as well as ammo prices, are lower than most I have seen.

I was there several days ago checking on the price of a Ruger LCP. they wanted list price. I called Jerry's in Rensselaer and was quoted a price $31.00 less. but Jerry wouldn't even take my name if one comes in. He said it was too difficult to do so. I even offered to pay for it in advance and he wouldn't be bothered.

    deb's is o.k ..... off KENNEDY AND 94 NORTH

Yeah they're ok, went there for the 1st time yesterday - they're about $50-100+ more than the handguns for sale in Jerry's.

And a lot of what came out of their mouth was horse honkey.

    I won't go back again.

Their ammo prices are normally pretty high. Most of the time I can buy ammo from Jerry's and if I don't need it anymore, go sell it to Westforth's for what I paid if not more.

But I will admit they are great to deal with, and do things like changing sights for pretty cheap if you haggle some.

Gander Mountain doesn't make you check in your firearm at the counter unless you're bringing it in for gunsmithing work or whatnot. If you're carrying you just go on in and don't worry about it.

    Hi

I sent them an email at the start of my search for a gun several months ago as a newbie, ( Still Am ), and am still waiting for a reply. So I figured they did not want any new business if they had to earn it. I live at Burr and the Interstate and they are at Kennedy and the Interstate, just a few miles. Customer service is still King.

    Jim

    P.S.
I work in a store where 300 to 600 people come in daily, and the customer service is usually outstanding. Store of the year award last year. Out of nearly 4,000 stores.
