Has anyone heard of Harbor Freight Tools? They have gas motors that are 10 hp for 89.00 on sale all the time. Would something like that be good to have? I can see many uses for it and it would not take up a lot of room. Would it survive an EMP attach?

I am not a nuclear physicist, but everything I have read or watched on the subject indicates than a detonation above the atmosphere that is required to create an EMP would cause minimal radiation risk. You might want also to take a look at the program that the History Channel did where scientists with experience did tests on several vehicles under controlled circumstances. None of the vehicles tested survived.

When you drive past Radio or TV Transmission Towers does you vehicle quit?! No you say. Congratulations your vehicle will survive an EMP event...

I got to page 5 and skipped the rest so sorry if this is double post... but when I take my kids for a bike ride they ride behind me in a 2 seat cart that we bought at walmart. I was thinking tha that would be perfect if an emp hits, I can ride my bike to get supplies and carrythem back in the enclosed cart.

An EMP is not what you have to worry about to lose power for months. A coronal mass ejection from the sun is. Check out NASA's and NOAA's website. The sun goes through 11-12 year cycles a minimum and maximum. We are entering a maximum after the least active minimum on record. Both msnbc and fox have had on astrophysicists discussing this issue over the last two years. CME's act like a EMP's. A friend of mine working at Northrop Grunman at Wright-Pat in OH says they Navy and Airforce have been working on projects for government continuation and communication if a CME hits the Earth directly. They est. trillions in damage and 3-6 months to recover. This has happened in the late 1800's shutting down the telegraph systems. On NOAA's website you can signup for email alerts for solar events.

You could protect your current (read car with electrically components) by building a Faraday cage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Off course this requires that you have the car or TV or radio or PC or whatever **INSIDE** the cage when the blast goes off.

I wonder if it is possible to shrink one and build it around the vehicle computer.

However its a mute point really because even if the car survives you are now target #1 for zombies everywhere. Why? An EMP blast is going to disable all our current cars, our electrical system, our manufacturing, etc.. In essence everything in our society! So having a car will be the least of your worries.

So don't worry about the car. Even if it survives and you manage to get thru the sea of dead cars how are you going to get more gas before you run out? Every zombie will be eying your car as well so stopping at the local shell station is not a good idea. not to method you have no way of pumping that gas.

Poke holes in the bottom of those sitting cars and drain the gas in them...

You should instead focus on forming a community that you will be able to depend on to live like the 1900s.

or you can do what a "spoiled person" i know told me. I'll just kill myself if my cellphone won't work and I can't watch TV.,

Spot on sir. A network of organization. Have a plan.

Does the EMP effect electronics if there is no power going to them?
