So today me and my friend went to Willow Slough to shoot the Mosin and his Mossberg pistol gripped shotgun. After an hour or 2 with the mosin, we decided to switch to the shotgun. After about 15 or so rounds for each of us, I load it up and proceed to shoot. On the 4th shot, for some reason, my wrist was not locked and the recoil made my arms flex in a manner which allowed the shotgun to punch me in the mouth. NO I was NOT holding it like it had a stock, it was about solar plexus height. My front tooth, top right is broken in half horizontally... Take a look for yourself.... Yes my teeth are yellow, that was from when I was younger/dumber. A bleaching will be in the works soon. Remember, SAFTEY, SAFTEY, SAFTEY! and keep your wrist locked.... :D

    My buddy did that.

Get ready for the tooth to die, get extremely painful to the point you canot close your mouth + $1500-2000(this is what it cost him 7 yrs ago, probably more now) for a root canal and new crown.

See a dentist on monday and they might be able to cement that back on.

Everyone jokes about the recoil on the mosin, but nothing compares to a 18.5" cruiser! Glad it did not hit your cheek or sternum, or eye.

Oh, and thanks for posting this - it is a lesson we can all learn from.

It looks like the break didn't expose the pulp, which is good (had that happen to me in a bicycle accident when I was a kid--seriously not a pleasant experience). The "gotcha" is that kind of trauma can still "kill" the tooth (meaning damage to the pulp which gets infected and leads to an expensive and uncomfortable root canal). Still, "can" is not "will" so here's hoping you get off lucky.
