I see lots of threads asking "what should I buy?" But lets play this game another way. I visited my insurance agent today for a little home/car tune-up and it got me thinking. Lets say theft, fire, storm takes your home tomorrow. Your insurance company cuts you a check for $5000 (which is the coverage limit on my policy for guns). What would you buy to replace your collection?

Rules: $5000 cash to spend, you as an experienced gun owner now own zero guns and need to refill the safe. GO!!!!!!!!

I would buy better insurance... Then I would buy an M&P 9c and a 1911. That takes care of carry. Then I would buy parts to build 2 AR's. One in 5.56 and one in .458 socom. Next I would buy a Remington 700 in .308. If there was any money left, I would buy a Remington 500. This would replace my most used guns. Then, I would join M67 in crying over the loss of the collectibles and the guns with sentimental value.

Such a tragedy would cause my wife to cry as well, not over the guns, but due to the fact that she would fear all the guns would get replaced before we bought the first piece of furniture. :):

    $5k?

    I'd cry. A lot

Well that could either be tears of joy or sorrow. $5K will buy a lot guns certainly not everything on the wish list. Idea here is prioritize. I will start.

SW 1911 in 9mm - for carry, USPSA etc
Glock 19 or Walther PPQ - for general purpose use
Smith M&P Shield or Ruger SR9c - affordable smaller carry gun
Mossberg 500 or Remy 870 with a couple barrels
Ruger 10/22 or 77/22 - not sure which configuration, lot of choices to be had here

Then see where the budget is before adding an AR or 9mm carbine.

If I'm alive, I'm betting a primary handgun and long gun survived the tragedy. :)

First thing I'd buy is a fully outfitted Dillon 650.

No fair cheating. Yes your EDC would survive and people can buy more insurance, but that is not the point.

So your priority is a quality pistol and long gun suitable for self defense and the ability to provide ammo for them. Good choices.

Savage Arms 16/116 Bear Hunter Bolt-Action Rifle- 1000
Custom 270 WSM (I like Carolina Custom Rifles)- ~3000-3500
    Glock 19 gen 4-600
    Shield 9mm- 400

Obviously I like hunting, and apocalypse/SHTF stuff is not a consideration for me.

    Replace the AR-15

    Pick up:

Dan Wesson Valor 1911 in stainless
    M&P Shield 9mm
    CZ SP-01 Shadow from CGW

Eventually I'd pick up a G19 gen 3 as well, but that would probably be all I need, push come to shove.

Tough call, but I'd have to replace the 3 guns I use the most, which are my competition guns, plus a carry option if for some reason it was damaged. That'd be an AR, shotgun, and pistol with competition upgrades, plus a S&W Shield or the like for carry. Anything left over would go towards a reloading press & replacing my belt rig for competition.

I'd replace my Garand, 1911, MR 73 revolver, MAS 49/56, AK and get a good shotgun first. After that (and between my uncontrollable sobs) I would just have to do a lot of thinking to decide what to get next. Thankfully in real life, my collection is more than covered by my Personal Property policy.

    Wouldn't be "all", but I'd replace my "tricked out" 870, 1 M&P FS, 1 Shield, .357, .38, my .22 pistol, and a 10/22.

the leftover monies would be spent on duplicating the innards of the two .22 firearms. For being cheap, they sure are expensive guns.

They'd be tears of sorrow. $5k wouldn't even come close, especially after optics, mounts, and suppressors.

$5k? Hmmm. I'm assuming my current EDC will still be on my person. Which right now is my Glock 26.

So, I'd buy a Glock 19. With some magazines for it. Ammo.
I'd like to buy another AR15, but since you can't find any ammo for that because of the stupid people panicking, I'd buy a Rem. 870 12g. With some ammo.
I'd also like to buy a .22lr, but since you can't find any ammo for that either, I'll just not buy anything else.

I'll use the rest of the money to find a place for us to live until we can rebuild.

I live in an apartment and have limitations on the dollar amount I can insure. I would start with a Colt 1911, M9, Ruger LC9S and a varmint rifle. I have several old wheel guns that could not be replaced for 5K.
