Just figuring up what I have in a box of 20 223 to reload.

With 62 grain green tip pulled bullets
Once fired Lake City brass - $1.20 ($60 per k)
    Primers - $.40 ($20 per k)
Powder - $.54 (figuring $60 per 8# jug of pulldown)
    bullets - $.90 ($45 per k)
    Total per 20 rounds = $3.04

With 68 grain Hornady hollow points
Once fired Lake City brass - $1.20 ($60 per k)
    Primers - $.40 ($20 per k)
    Powder - $1.43 ($20 a pound for Varget)
    Bullets - $3.40 ($17 per 100)
    Total per 20 rounds = $6.43

With 77 grain Sierra hollow points
Once fired Lake City brass - $1.20 ($60 per k)
    Primers - $.40 ($20 per k)
    Powder - $1.43 ($20 a pound for Varget)
    Bullets - $5.20 ($13 per 50)
    Total per 20 rounds = $8.23

Some of the above prices were from stuff I already have. You can knock off a $1.20 per box of 20 if you are reusing your brass. A box of UMC will run you at least $10 a box right now.

Here's an example of 9 mm ammo. I don't load it though.

    Per box of 50
    Brass - $2.55 ($51 per k)
    Primers - $1.00 ($20 per k)
Powder - $.71 ($20 a pound at 5 grain of powder per round)
    Bullets - $4.50 ($90 per k of Win. fmj)
    Total per box of 50 = $8.76

If you had bought the brass a long time ago, it would be about a 3rd of that probably. Reuse your brass and it drops your box price to almost $6 a box.

    Shameless, just shameless!
Is there anybody that will pay this for a 50 round box of Wolf?
.60 cents a round and that DOES NOT include shipping!

If so, I got a used bridge I'll make somebody a GREAT deal on. :n00b:

where do you find hp38 for 115 SHIPPED!!!!

Powder valley, in December right before they raised their prices. The $20 for hazmat was split four ways for this order because I also had a couple of cases of primers and more powder shipped too, and I also saved on shipping by ordering near the 48 pound limit. So in the end, it came to $115.

I really like HP-38. It's a bit dirty and is temperature sensitive, but is a versitile, low-pressure, economical powder for 9mm and 45. It's single-based, so it's cool burning (good for lead bullets) and is not prone to pressure spikes as compared to a double-based powder like titegroup or Clays.

I do find that HP-38 doesn't meter well until you let it settle in for 20-30 rounds or so. So what I do is run empty cases through the loader and drop powder for about 30-rounds, then I measure and adjust powder drop again. I don't have to mess with it again as long as I keep the powder jar more than 1/3 full.

I've easily got $1500 in my setup but that includes a Giraud trimmer setup for 2 calibers. I've got an LNL AP with a case feeder and all 4 feedplates, a Lee cast single stage, a LNL classic kit, plus other odds and ends.

So, if I just save $200 per k of 223, it only takes about 7 or 8 k to break even with my setup. It can be done for much less.

I was checking some brass prices today and it looks like 223 brass has about doubled from when I bought it. So you can figure almost $2.50 per $20. If you had to go out and buy components at todays prices, you'll be hard pressed to save $200 per k probably but if you buy a **** ton of components today at today's prices, you can only bet the savings will really add up in the future as ammo prices keep going up.

Here's an example on what you can save on 308. Cheaper Than Dirt price is $29.79 for a box of 20 Federal Gold Match 168 gr.

    New brass $8
    Primers $.60
powder $3.60 (figuring 50 grains at $25 per pound)
bullets $6.00 (figuring $30 per 100 of 168 gr boat tail hollowpoints)
    Total = $18.20

You can really save a ton on high dollar centerfire rifle rounds. Pretty much anything besides 7.62x39 and 223 is a buck a round or more out there now.
