I would not call them idiots. At least not any more so than the RO condoning it.

I believe they just do not stop and think, no more so than the guy talking on the cell phone wile driving or worse yet texting while drivine. Or having 1 more beer before heading for home, or any of hundreds of other things that are done daily with folks getting hurt.

Yell CEASE FIRE! and then "you ******g idiot"! just as loud as you can.

Or maybe do exactly as was done and make it a learning opportunity instead of a headline that paints ranges as even more dangerous than we already know them to be. I don't get the people that would rather make rude comments, make fun of someone, or wait until they get home so they can complain online instead of trying to help someone as to correct a potentially deadly situation.

    Yup, makes sense to me!

Jasper-Pulaski...50 yard line. He was by the birm, and apparently thought it was good to go, but he had shooters all to the right of him.

I don't know what it is about this place but I've witnessed people walking down range, with active shooting, every time I've been here.

First off, not condoning the dudes actions. I have been to the range and I remember the first time I wanted to go down range. Looked around there was no signs or any indication of how to accomplish this, so I just stood around. Luckily there was only one other person so it wasn't to long. So to answer the question is maybe they don't know the "etiquette". So maybe signs are needed laying out the actions needed to go down range would be a good idea.

I would tend to agree, if the no. Of people doing this is as high as indicated in this thread , there must be a communication problem at this particular range.

Yes, maybe, but was your inclination to waltz down range with people firing rounds next to you?

Great idea and to the point because that is what needs to be done.

Well so much for teaching and instruction.

Frankly if I was RO, and this happened in mixed company at the range I frequent you would be escorted to the gate and your key and membership pulled. No excuse for this kind of language, or behavior on your part.

The other behavior can be handled and if it continues that person would also be escorted to the gate and key and membership also pulled.

At our local state range the range officer comes over and gives each shooter or group
"The talk" . If someone broke the rules there's one warning and then you're gone.
This RO dropped the ball and in my opinion is the "idiot" ...this person should not have been allowed downrange twice without a good chewing out..The other shooters should not have had to
    resolve this problem.

Show me some chevrons with rockers when wanting to teach and instruct. Real simple, public ranges are a roll of the dice.

So we are now condoning the use of the "F" word and placing other shooters into the range ninja category to keep the rest of us in line.

Now know why I NEVER go to a public range, never have and never will. I'll stay content to be a member of the 3 private clubs I frequent. Obviously a better class of folks.

Whether he knew the rules or not, common sense should tell you not to walk down to look at your target in the line of fire. As far as the learning expirience goes the op said he tried to talk to the guy more than once. I go to the range to shoot not teach. Common sense is getting pretty uncommon nowadays.
