Check the INGO FAQ (yes, we have one).

    No Carry:
K-12 schools, licensed daycare, HeadStart and the like
    Airport (passed security.)
Government buildings, only by local ordinance or judge orders.
    Riverboat casinos
    State Fair
Federal buildings (the post office is still often debated.

    Carry is fine:
    banks (they may have rules)
Colleges/Universities (they may have rules, but no law)
Churches (watch out for LICENSED daycare. Most churches are license-exempt)
Libraries (watch out for local ordinances)

The state doesn't place a whole lot off limits. However, towns can pass their own ordinances controlling TOWN properties. That ends up effecting parks, libraries, and other public-owned properties.

OC and CCW are regulated the same. Carry as you please.

It doesn't matter how you carry. Indiana law does not specify. As long as your not at one places prohibited by law, you can carry CC or OC. Remember, cities and counties, and the federal government all have their own laws that pertain to properties they own. For example, a city may have an ordinance against carrying in city owned parks. The county may say no carry in a county owned building. Don't worry, even after the city, county, state, and federal governments have told you where you can't carry, there are still lots of places where you can.

That being said, some places have their own private RULES against guns. A movie theater may not ALLOW guns, but they also don't allow you to bring in food or drinks, neither is against the law, just against their rules. Get caught, and you'll be asked to leave. In that case, if you wanted bring your own drinks into the theater, even though you would be breaking no laws, you would probably want to conceal it. :D

To answer you question, you can legally carry openly any place that you can legally carry concealed.

However, discretion is the better part of valor.

There are places where open carry will attract a lot of unwanted attention.

    Examples:
private property where firearms are not permitted: OC will get you thrown out most often, and CC you will go unnoticed
unsecured area of airports: even though legal, you're going to get a lot of unwanted attention if open-carry there vs. concealed carry

Then you have the places where it is illegal to carry (schools, Indy parks, federal buildings/property etc) where OC will likely get you arrested, however CC will most often allow you to "fly under the radar" if you wish to break the law in order to protect yourself/family.

Yes, the above posters have given you correct information. Anywhere you can legally carry your handgun, you can carry with your choice of Open or Concealed.

There is huge debate on the value of OC vs. CC and I won't get into here, but you can find the threads.

I personally have variables that dictate to ME whether I will OC or CC. What I am wearing, where I am going, what gun I am carrying. You have to make these decisions for yourself.

Just be aware that many establishments are not as friendly toward open carry as others, and they have the right as a private business to ask you to leave if you are carrying a firearm. Keeping it concealed never alerts them to this fact.

I once went to a sports bar/restaurant in South Bend while open carrying and they asked me to leave because "Guns and ammo and alcohol don't mix." Even though I don't drink alcohol. Now I just conceal it when I go there.

The new Indiana gun laws book has a good section on cc or oc, I think oc may make you more of a target in a bad situation. If they don't see the firearm you don't get the unwanted attention.

The historical norm was that the law abiding tended to carry their arms openly but criminals tended to conceal theirs in order to get the jump on their intended victims.

Nowadays, not much has changed. :):

You just never hear of the OCers being attacked with remotely the same proportional regularity that CCers are, since they do blend in with the unarmed.

Not all attention is unwanted. ;)

I agree with this right here atm. who in their right mind would try to attack someone who is obviously carrying. Also, I would feel like anyone who is oc, would prolly know how to use their stuff. So, I would have to agree that more people would leave you alone

Really good info here. Thanks again. Also, kinda odd to me that state fair you cannot oc? Are you not allowed to cc carry either? or is it just oc? I guess its because of so many people in a small environment?
