Due to Florida law, all foreclosures are required to be handled through the court system. Hence, when Wells Fargo foreclosed in a property which it also had a financial stake in... well, you end up with funny legal documents with "Wells Fargo Bank NA" listed as both the plaintiff and defendant

I think it's brilliant. If Wells Fargo lost the case, they'd owe money to themselves. They would not dispute their own lawsuit and a judge would award them damages. I believe settlement money is non-taxable. Wells Fargo just wins a huge payout from Wells Fargo with no tax liability.
