sometimes it's better for me to talk to the worker, & tell him when he f'ing up he's hurting his UNION brothers & sisters, & if he keeps messing up his union peers will turn their back on him. Then having a manager punish him & hurt the moral of the workers, which in turns will affect the work production, with guys not working at their peak & taking sick out, cause they are upset & don't want to come to work.;)

I would like to.come up with a great paragraph about unions and to.explain how I feel about them....but I would much rather keep it simple...Unions SUCK! :D

I have mixed opinions on unions. Some, like the electrical workers, keep their people educated and highly qualified in their job skills. Very similar to companies like mine full of contractors that have to maintain a skill set and bid on work.

Others are just bands of trained monkeys who do work that ANYONE can do. These seem to be the more violent groups because they know that anybody with half a brain could take their place.

I don't understand why companies bother with unions anymore, I'd just give the jobs to contracting companies who have to rely on quality work to win bids and keep them.

and the reminds me... I got a good laugh out of the union folks in Linton during the 4th of July parade. Kept hearing about how great the unions were, since many of the folks there work in the mines.

Wonder how they are going to feel when the EPA shuts them down? All of their union dues going to the Dem party to put Obama in place and now they will probably lose their jobs.

My union rep threatened to kill me (even flashed his revolver) if I did not obey his instructions. I was a member of IUE 901 and employed at the General Electric plant on Taylor Street in Fort Wayne. I did what I was told, but I quit the job when I finished my education. I have never joined a union since. Of course, being self-employed no union wanted me, either. A few years later GE closed that entire plant and moved the operations to Mexico. Can't blame that move on anyone except the union.

I have worked in various machine shops in Fort Wayne since I quit GE. Those shops were death traps for the workers. Serious. In one shop I was told to hold parts with my bare hand while drilling that part. I would not have been the first one to drill a hole in my hand, but the shop was not about to invest the money in building a mechanical device to hold the part in place when they could hire another worker to put his hands at risk for far less money.

At the same shop I was instructed to replace a grindstone by lying on my back and allowing a co-worker to remove the lock screw so the grindstone could drop into my hands. I was then required to slide the stone across my abdomen to the co-worker who would use a hoist to remove it. The new stone was then to be lowered onto my abdomen so I could slide it back into position and then lift it up (like doing a bench press) so the co-worker could insert the lock screw and tighten it to hold the stone in place. When I informed the supervisor that I could not bench press the weight of the stone, another man was ordered to do so. While holding the stone up in place, while the other co-worker and I were trying to line up the screw with the opening in the shaft, the man's strength failed. He had to lower the stone onto his body to rest. We finally got it done on the third attempt. There were no safety devices to protect the man under the stone. The guy was a brute, but stupid. He put his life on the line for $7/hour. We had no recourse, no protection.

Bottom line: You're dead either way, or at least at risk of serious bodily injury. Company will kill/maim you if you follow their instructions. Union will kill you if you don't follow their instructions.

My conclusion: If necessary, I prefer to work in a union shop because of the safer working conditions. If I have my choice, I will continue to work for myself, using my mind as a manager, instructor or administrator, rather than work in manufacturing plants.

BTW, after changing the grindstone that night, I never went back to that shop. I figured the plant manager, who drove a 1983 Corvette, could find someone else to make him rich.

I love this story because it's being reported by no one.

CNN? MSNBC? Kos? Media Matters? Think Progress? ... Anyone? Nope.

I've only seen it at FoxNews and BigGovernment.

My anti-union opinions aside, don't count on this story to get much publicity.

In my shop it's always safety first, many of times I've closed the ramp, cause of lightning, managers have said we can load the plane quickly to send the flight out on time. i've said "NO" safety first.

I've had to call a union guy on the weekend...wait an hour until he arrives, watch him push a cart with 2lbs of equipment 50 feet down the hallway, and then return home. He collects a minimum 4 hours pay for doing something that I could have done in 1 minute. My time and pay is also being wasted as I am having to wait around for a guy to do a stupid task that a trained goat could do. Moving that cart cost about $120(approx my pay and his pay combined)

I cant stand unions. I am sure they had an honorable purpose at one time but today it is just a way to protect a shi... worker and hold a good worker back. Kinda reminds me of socialism.

Any time I start a thread, remotely in the wrong category, the Mods move it, but this thread has NOTHING to do with carrying or self defense, but it lives on. So a anti vs. pro union debate is about carrying and self defense?

If it wasn't for the union, you would be work in a dangerous job making $1.50 an/hour & spending your paycheck in the company store working 16 hour days 7 day a week with no over-time or benefits;)

It's a good thing federal and state employees have unions then. Oh, and the teachers too. Gosh I'd hate to think about my kids being trapped in a unionless school system for over 100 hours a week.

Unions are awesome! My family owned a business with union employees, they decided to go on strike. Those union guys used to follow me around town and follow me home at night when I was in high school. Talk about scary! We had to install motion lights all around our house out in the country..
