How recent is the ex-girlfriend, and (stupid question probably) how are things between you two? Do you think she'd go as far as to steal from you or have someone steal from you for her? Honestly, aside from the roommate, that'd be where the majority of my suspicion would lie.

Make flyers and post them everywhere possible. I had 12 stolen, got back 7 thanks to the flyer. Good luck.

Not a bad Idea, I will start on that at office depot tomorrow. Bradis's asked for a picture and description so they could start looking for it and send the information to other gun shops ( This is also why they will always continue to get my business)

    +1 for bradis's

To put this simple she moved in and she never assisted with bills and attempted to put me in debt, and used any advantage she could get. Do we get along now? No. She was kicked out and after 4 months she wanted to obtain her stuff, the police were called and is was explained due to the items were not obtained after 30 days that there is nothing she can do I she was escorted of the property. I also had recordings of the conversations where I offered to be there so she could pick her stuff up she never showed. Now if she did break in she did a good job or she may have had one of her friends assit her. But there is plenty of possible outcomes but its a matter of jumping on it without undoubtable proof.

But the other note is that she did not know I had any guns as I did not bring them to the house until after 2 months ago. But its possible she could have seen the safe and instantly throught money but why not grab the $200 in 20s sitting right on the desk? and why not grab the two AR15s and the 6 boxs of 40 cal ammo? Thats where it gets confusing but also adds up more to that it was someone I know.

I also want to thank you all for you help :)

Buddy, I'm sorry about your situation, but that last post is more than enough reason for me to think that is where your XD went. I'd be willing to bet she's mad enough to burn the place down with you inside, let alone steal a pistol.

Hard telling, maybe whoever stole it thought that you'd miss the other items more easily?

Is this a new version of the "I lost X in a boating accident"???

Sorry, kidding. Did someone have access to the house and wanted that specific gun, thinking you wouldn't notice it for awhile?

Is this a gun you shoot much? DID you notice it right away or perhaps has it been awhile? If so, I'd start looking at people who know you better than the average criminal would.

    Good luck in recovering it.

OOOH I just read on a bit more. Seems I was right about knowing "her". Prosecute that BLEEP. The gun is long gone- definitely on the market in an illegal way- i.e. not to a pawn shop. Some criminal has it. Get that thing's serial number to the police ASAP. We need them to know that when it was used to commit a crime, it was a stolen gun and not "bought through a gunshow loophole" or any of that other crap.

I've been there done that...it sucks. I had the same thing happen to me 12 yrs ago. The pistol showed up 7 yrs later on a traffic stop. A LTCHer had bought my pistol off the street...he got locked up because of it. You never know when/where it will turn up. It stays in the NCIC wanted files forever (practically speaking).

    :hijack:

Why would the LTCHer get locked up?
Was it becuase he knew the gun was stolen at the time of purchase?

Say for example I buy a gun from you (Denny347) in a face 2 face transaction and you tell me it's your gun you got it from Cabelas.

Then 2 years later I get stopped for a speeding ticket and the LEO runs a check on my gun (which you happen to give me a bill of sales for or I still have the email exchange we did regading the purchase) and it turns out the gun was stolen. So are you saying I'm geeting in trouble for stolen merchandize when I have no way of knowing it?

Well, I was not there for the traffic stop so I do not know what he said to the officers. He could have told them that he knew it was stolen for that he bought it so cheap that a prudent person would believe that the pistol was hot. Usually the person would not get locked up unless we can prove they knew it was stolen.

Well I took a closer look and The person came through the window. I found the finger prints and since I had my finger print card from my previous NICS issue I compared and there was not a match, So of course I called the detective he came out to obtain the information and prints. And the question was how he got though the window? The safety tabs where broke off and the screen just slides up and and the top part of the plastic trim of the window was broken so they opened it from top first. But there are finger prints now so we will see how it goes, now im just in the process of Filing the NRA insurence claim - found it to be pretty easy :rockwoot:. And it is true even if you just become a basic member of the NRA there is a Auto $1000 insurence for your firearms, just need to provide proof of purchase or ownership they will also cover gun accessories such as mags and holsters.

Now the question is do I by the same for replacement or upgrade to the XD 45ACP tactical

Good job on the investigation. Maybe they will find out who stole it now. Might even get it back.

Just a thought. If they recovered it like ten years later. Do you have to return the money that you got from the NRA insurance?

As far as the information states I do not see that as a requirement if that happens but then again it could go by the standard rules of insurance- Basically if you do locate the missing item the insurance company must be notified, and they will provide information if they would like the property or not. Normally the stolen property if found is released then to the insurance company due to you have been paid out your loss.

Example: Car is stolen and you are provide the amount to purchase a replacement, if the car is found it is released to the insurance company or at least that is how I have seen it.

From what you had described, there is no reason to believe that anyone knew you owned the pistol or than a gun of anysort was in the safe.
A criminal might see $200 in twenties, but everything outside the safe is worthless.
It must be so, because it is heavy and you didn't bother locking up the 'less than valuables'.

I would wager that while no one knew what was in the safe, that the thief has seen the safe before. Their intent was to grab the safe and get out.

I remember coming home from church in 2001 to have my cell ringing with an officer on the other end. My downtown office was broken into, and he called the phone number off the stack of business cards on my desk (good thinking by officer that the point of contact would be found in the stack of 200 copies of the same card).
Through the broken glass (3 glass doors were knocked out to get to the office), the robber made their way into the 2nd floor where my office was at.
    Here's the kicker.
Only the Sony DVD player was gone.
    TV..still there
    Computers...all still there.
foam cup of cash and coins for the Soda fund...still there (and 2ft away from DVD location).

Bottom line, they thief had one thing on his mind.
I know exactly who did it.
A homeless man stopped in asking for help after getting kicked out of both shelters downtown. I said 'we don't do that kind of work here, but I have a friend with connections..you can wait to talk to him'.
While he waited, I caught him staring at the DVD player in the AV stack under the TV.
We ended up sending him away because no one would take him in (he was kicked out of last shelter for getting naked and giving himself a spongebath in the womens' restroom).

Bottomline, his narrow focus was on DVD.
Whoever broke into your place had the intent to get the safe and getout.
Especially if nothing was roughed up..they knew what they were looking for.

Now here is something that would turn the tables (and I just thought this up and laughed at myself).
It is just a matter of time to open a safe.
So why not make it a fun discovery for the thief?
Everyone here go to your safe and open it up.
Take out some money and throw in loosely into the safe.
But before you do that, sprinkle some blood on it(fake, hamburger..whatever).
Cut out the most recent articles about bank robberies in your area.
Laminate them even (for added effect, spill blue dye on a dollar bill and laminate in same sheet next to the article).
Throw in some rough map sketches of getaway plans.

Now, chances are if someone takes your safe (or even opens it to rummage through), they will try to turn you in thinking that YOU are a bigger criminal.
Criminals are stupid. They will fall for it.
Hilarity will ensue and justice is served.
