I'm interested in getting a scope for my new ruger 10/22. I'd like to spend less than $70. I'll mainly be using it for squirrel hunting and plinking. Thanks in advance
I've heard good things about that model from others. Have you ordered one recently? I've heard that the recent models aren't the same quality as older ones.
Mueller APV is great. I have one in silver on my 10/22. If you are ever around the west side and want to try it out let me know. I live right near Marion County Fish and Game.
The rings that actually come with the scope are for the 3/8 rail. If you have a factory scope mount you will not need anything else. If you do not have a factory mount you will need a set of weaver rings.
i have a bushnell 4-9x32 rimfire on my 10/22 and its around 40-50 dollars and we have shot a lot of squirrels and things with it and ive been really impressed
I'm not quite sure what scope mounts my gun has. It came with a BSA holographic red-dot (which is terrible, hence why I'm replacing it). I think that it is a weaver multi slot base as it has two sets of ridges. What does the factory scope mount look like...any way to tell what I have definitively.
The weaver style scope base has "notches" that allow you to remove the optic and remount it in the exact same place. Weaver is also quite a bit wider than the factory scope base.
The standard mount that comes with a 10/22 is about 7/8 inch wide for weaver rings and then the length of it there will be another set of grooves cut 3/8 inch wide for regular .22 rings. In the pictures that Slacker posted the top mount will handle weaver or .22 rings
Personally I prefer a fixed 4X on my 10/22s.... I have both Bushnell and Somons scopes on them. They are cheaper but they perform fine on a .22lr.
The weaver rails do provide a better and more stable plateform than the smaller Ruger rail (old style?), and the weaver also allows you to use standard rings vs the smaller .22 rings (mounting base widths).
